Which service to start with?

Hi,

I'm looking to do offline consulting but I don't know what service I should provide first to get the ball rolling.

In your opinion which is the easiest service to sell to offline businesses?

(No offence but I don't want a smart-ass comment saying 'there all easy if you know how to do it' I just want your opinions, your personal experience)

Honestly for me mobile websites have been the easiest sell thus far. Or at least to get my foot in the door. Most of the time I end up selling them a more expensive service. Don't go in with a suite, you are not selling insurance. Jeans, button down, suite jacket, tablet or laptop, and confidence. THEY NEED YOU!

It's all up hill from there.

Hey man...I'll give you a tip but first a disclaimer. When it comes to SEO, I have no idea what I'm talking about. On the other hand, when it comes to SELLING, I'm pretty good at it. I've been making over 500 calls per day since I was 15 years old and loved every second of it.

    So here's the tip.

When you are qualifying, ask questions. It can be on the phone (the best way), email (the worst way) or in person (best closing ratio, lowest reach)...it doesn't matter.

After you open and get your first few lines out you then ask them questions about their business. For example...

Do you have a website? (yes/no)
    -ask them how it's going

Do you have an autoresponder (yes/no)

Do you have a mobile site (yes/no)

You ask the same question for all your services. Just don't make it like you are interviewing the guy...make it conversational.

Once you hear a NO (and you eventually will), you close on it HARD! For example...

You - "Do you have a mobile site"

    Them - No

You - "Really? Well mobiles sites are...blah blah blah...In order for your entire internet marketing strategy to work, you MUST have a mobile site. Without them, you kind of have a puzzle with a missing piece. Can't really see the complete picture without all the pieces...RIGHT?" (I know nothing about them)

You - "Since we are meeting (date/time of meeting), I'm willing to do this for you. I usually charge A but since we are meeting (date/time again), and I'll need this done before I can really go over the benefits of what I offer, I'm willing to do this for you for B and have it done by (morning before meeting)"

Make sure you juxtapose the price and confirm the meeting date and time twice, then ask for the money.

My opinion, concentrating on one specific service as a "foot in the door" product is a mistake. What if they have it? By questioning them, then closing on what they don't have, then telling them the whole "for the entire process to work you need this", then juxtapose the price, you close more deals.

The 2 things that are easiest to sell right now are mobile sites and rental of lead gen sites/videos.

If you're looking to make money tomorrow, make calls offering mobile sites, some of my guys have 40% conversion rates, it's easy to build one and they get something in their hand in a few days.

If you want a more profitable/ residual income then lead gen sites are just as easy to sell but take longer as they need to be ranked before they generate leads.

You can make 5k in a month by selling mobile sites while ranking your lead gen sites, them just rent out the sites once ranked and you're all good.

Once you have a few sites bringing in enough to survive off try with more advance lower conversion rate but higher ticket things like web design and seo.

Don't bother with google local places etc at the moment, I sense a huge change coming in the way they will be ranked. They're very inconsistent at the moment anyways.

This is almost the exact same biz plan I just gave to my little brother last week and he's sold a few mobi sites already.

I am not sure about business but I do allot of selling to individual from my business. It is doing OK but I just started. It saves people money on wireless, home phones, cell phones, home security, and VOIP. I think it is a good idea especially in today's economy to save money. My problem isn't getting people to buy ..my problem is finding the leads. Because I just hate to cold call but I am trying.

Thought I would throw my two cents in.

What's the name of the product that you are selling?

And by the way, have you tried NLP to overcome your phobia of selling/cold calling?

Sell what they don't have. There has to be a want or need for the product or service. If there is none, there's no use in even saying hello.

I am with Lightyear wireless. They are partnered with two major carriers here in the US to use there towers. But they don't advertise publicly so it is mostly word of mouth. Which makes it hard because most people have not heard of them so they think they are some fly by night company but they have been in business since 93 and they have just recently added the wireless division. So I am having to cold call people and I hate cold calling. I am trying to find a better way to reach people like advertising but not having much luck with that yet.

Tim was asking about what to start with businesses and they do offer business services also. If he already does marketing it would fit with what he is doing already. Maybe he can help me with marketing or anyone.

Doesn't matter. People aren't interested in your service.

They're interested in solutions and results.

So have a few services in your toolbox--but don't talk about them. Ask questions: Why did you invite me in today? What's been going on? What don't you like about it? What do you wish were happening instead? How do you think I can help you?

The answers will tell you what service(s) to offer.

    Tim,

To be respectful to your request,

    You're right ... it's not easy!

On another note ... it's not about how you can easily make money off of them either!

With that said, I suggest that YOU take some time studying this forum to find the FORMULA that will work for you!

Then figure out what you can do for them!

    Onwards & Upwards!

People are not really bothered by what service you can provide, they are more interested in what answers you have to their problems and how these answers can further increase their bottom line.

The best thing would be to read up on a variety of services; seo, mobile web design, orm etc.. This will give you a broader scope to start with.

With this info, you can approach several businesses and easily work out which services they need.
