Any Suggestions for Marketing Strategies for a Book Publisher?

I was just approached by a small publishing house to help them market their business and their authors.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how you would market a book publishing business?

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

    Build them a website?

Seriously, what are they already doing to market themselves? If you list the ways they're currently trying to promote themselves, then maybe some of the more experienced warriors can throw out additional ideas (i.e. - press releases).

Just curious, how/why did they approach you for marketing advice?

They already have a website but honestly...that was my first thought!

I posted in another forum that I did marketing for small businesses and they asked me to give them a call to discuss how I might be able to help them.

This looks like a good resource: Book marketing tips and book promotion ideas from expert John Kremer

And from their blog: Book Marketing Bestsellers: Book Promotion Blog: The Top 4 Book Marketing Tactics in Today's World

You'll probably find more publishing specific advice there than you will here.

Take a look into Brendon Burchard's stuff. He just launched "The Charge" a few weeks ago and it was a best seller purely from internet marketing. he didn't do any interviews, book signings, anything...all online. On the day he launched he was number 1 on Amazon and B&N beating out the "50 Shades Of Grey" books. The guy knows how to market books.

He talks about it a little in Total Product Blueprint but he really gets into it in Experts Academy.

You might want to think of it less as selling books and more like developing the business model. There are plenty of resellers out there like booksamillion, chegg.com, barnesand noble, and a bunch more. Also, networks like Commission Junction, etc have some books/courses listed through those resellers, I think they are paying like 5% commission or something, but someone must slap those banners up there.
Depending on the vertical, you might be able to help with the web side of business development. Without knowing more it's tough to say. Also, might sound like a stretch, but there are mobile marketing opportunities for book sellers. Getting their site mobile optimized, if they do any emailing, etc.
