Handling Charitable Donations

So, as a part of my package, I am offering a % of the total amount as a donation on my company's behalf in the name of the client, as an incentive, and frankly a karma/community builder.

How do I go about this so that it's all above board?

I already have one charity in mind and they would be happy to be partnered with me...so, I am not worried about having a place to send the $$ to.

But I'm more concerned with... what kind of documentation do I need to keep for myself, and also provide to the client whose purchase made the donation possible?

    I'm not a lawyer. Let me just give my educated guess.
    Perhaps, it will help you will write a clear and detailed documentation indicating the purpose of the donation, who will receive it, when will they receive it, how will they receive it, things like that.

    A friend told me before that PayPal requested him to remove the donation PayPal button on his website because he lacks the documentation proving that the proceeds will really go to a charity institution.
