The Business is out there! They need websites...

So I am currently in the process of setting up my on business and getting a email markecting campaign ready.

In my local county there are 51,607 companies

27,281 don't have a website !

Now the stats might be wrong but the company I was talking to that provided this info clean there data against companies house.

So if your in the Uk then the business is there

Sam

It's true there are a lot of businesses without a website but the problem is, if businesses owners don't have a website, they don't realise the value of a website which means it will be incredibly hard for you to sell it to them. Of course, this is not always the situation and sometimes it's an easy sale.

I think the way to get them to buy a website is not to position yourself as a website seller but a business or marketing consultant and sell them on growing their business and getting more exposure and clients. Then explain them the easiest way of growing their business right now is trough internet and social media and mobile etc.

No offense, but that's just an excuse to not take action. Web design is my primary money maker, and I can get 1-3 grand out of business owners that don't have a website.

It's your job to show them the value, once you've accomplished that, the website/SEO will sell itself.

Also, remember that there are thousands of new business start-ups every year that need websites as well.

Businesses do need websites. It's our job to show them the 'benefits' of having a website and showing them what this can do for their bottom line profits. We are not selling websites, we are selling them the idea of more customers, more status on line, more exposure etc which ultimately leads to more money, just my 10p worth.

If you show them the VALUE of a website, they will end up understanding the NEED for a website.

I truly believe that there is value for all those people even if they don't see it.

Just need to get the campaign setup and get my phone ready to dial, never pitched website but should not be as hard as multi million pound energy customers.....

I think the challenge is going to get them to open then email and then engage with me. So will just need a good title and CTA.

Bingo. It's in the positioning and perspective.

A business doesn't NEED a website. In fact, there are many businesses that do just fine without one (in the OP's statistics, around 1/2 in the county?)

But EVERY business NEEDS a CUSTOMER. A website is a means of helping a business find more customers and communicate with (keep) the customers they already have.

Exactly. People always seem to believe that the market is somewhat saturated in the UK especially in London. This just isn't the case.

My company serves 'dozens' of new start-up businesses each and every month. So it's simply a case of being visible to those that need your services if you wish to have a steady stream of work.

There was an insightful feature recently in the Guardian about how new graduates need to create their own jobs instead of trying to find them. This is precisely the sort of thinking they were describing. Nice idea!

well done yetisam and I wish you luck in your business.

I'm no expert at email marketing but I think you should start with something different marketing wise as email marketing although sucessful if done right is not going to be as sucessful (in terms of concversion rates) as say; door to door, cold calling, direct mail etc.

In fact I agree that the uk market is less saturated than the american market. It's the only sector in the uk economy that's still growing.....fact!

However here is what I think is the downside when comparing the two great nations.

American attitudes are different to English ones. i.e. the English are a bit slow on the up take when it comes to new ideas so need more convincing and I have noticed from sucess stories on here that uk fees seem to be a third cheaper (bad news for us warriors in the uk). Which may explain why we are such mean tippers lol.

However this got me thinking recently...there's nothing to stop a uk warrior from selling his services in America is there? In fact I get the impression a lot of folks love the accent over the phone and seem to think we are more trust worthy sellers lol.

Cheers for all the positive responses, the market is wide open its just doing it !

The Reason I am going With email marketing is the following

I don't have the time or the correct environment to cold call ( 4 kids in a small house)

I am getting 3.5k sends , and a postal letter to all the new biz in my area over the next 3 months.I Also will get given the complete list of who the email was sent to with contact details. So i then plan to follow the list up using a CRM

Just deciding on a product to offer for this campaign and a good title for the email to increase open rates.
