QR Code Postcard - Someone's marketing this to offline businesses

Just wanted to share with my fellow offline warriors...

While visiting a friend yesterday, I noticed a direct mail piece sitting on their foyer table.

It was a 4.25" x 10.75" mailer with 18 QR codes (all on one side of the card). Directly above each QR code was each participants logo, their company name and their phone number.

On the backside of the postcard (the address side), was a magnet affixed to the short end allowing the entire postcard to be stuck on the fridge. Mailer was sent PRSRT STD.

Also on the backside was text indicating that the recipient should download a free QR code reader - they recommended RedLaser - and scan each offer. To redeem, show the offer to the retailer for whatever discount is being provided.

Postcard states "Good for 6 months."

Participants:
7 Restaurants
3 Retailers
1 Plumber
2 Salons
1 Chiropractor
1 Glass Replacement
1 Insurance
1 Real Estate Agency
1 Solar/Contractor

Just an FYI. Someone's doing this.

    But are they making any money with it?

    I see QR promotions all over the place, if i can i ask hows its working
    for them, never once have i heard ANYONE say they were worth it.

      Meh. Don't know. I still see it as a novelty that hasn't really been adopted by the consumer. Lots of businesses have been convinced by their advertising agencies that it's a necessity (based on what you can find in magazines), but ROI disclosure is what keeps me away from promoting it.
