Social Media Management Question

Is anyone having success as a social media manager?

My wife is a soon to be stay at home mom & she's looking in to this as a supplemental career. We checked out the Kate Buck/Ryan Deiss program "Lets Get Social" and it 'sounds' great. But after a quick Google search I noticed there are very few companies who actually specialize in this, and those who do are primarily in the SEO biz, which is not something she's interested in.

So is anyone aware of offliners who are actually making money as independent Social Media Managers?

  • Yes, there are many people making good income as Social Media Managers. Pay can range from $30K to $60K per year depending on the skill level and experience of the Manager. This is not kids stuff where you just post links, you need to work with the business owner and also understand content creation.
I trained a Social Media company in 2010-2011 on how to do this we they hired several people over the past 2 years.

  • Thanks James.

Sooooo, $30-60k. Is that the consensus? From marketing & sales to setting up the accounts to creating a boatload of content, then billing & customer service...That seems like a ton of work for that kind of return. Ryan Deiss (I know, I know) seems to think that anyone with a pulse should be pulling 100k/year doing this kind of work.

Anyone else have a different experience?

    • Ryan Deiss says of lot of things which you should liberally douse with salt. He is a closer, first and foremost. Isn't it obvious after a minute of hearing him speak?
  • One of my friends is on the social marketing team for Dodge, and he makes about that range, probably 50ish. But, he works in the office and is a full time employee.
