COLD CALLS -- NEED YOUR OPINION

Hi Guys,

I'm a beginning entrepreneur, and I'd love some input on an idea of mine.

I've always had a vested interest in Web Design, but I have yet to sharpen my abilities in a way of which would put me in a position to make a business out of it. Instead, I have spent the last few years of my life online brainstorming about one thing - OUTSOURCING!

I have been in touch with a team of 3-4 FULLY capable international web designers. They've created a couple of websites for myself personally so I know that they are reliable and that their quality of work is outstanding. This gave me an idea.

I was thinking about building my own team of designers - a network of sorts, and build myself up. I have an idea that involves cold calling with local businesses, and then to move up the ladder and begin garnering contacts province-wide (I'm Canadian!) and even internationally.

I know that this is something big to take on as an 18 year old, but I feel as though I can be successful as long as I stay focused and start small. I'm opening to approaching business ventures with both a sense of ambition yet a n assuring variety of realism.

TL;DR / SUMMARY -- I want to contact local businesses via telephone and seek clients for web design, and then outsource and pay other designers to do it at a lower price.

What I'm seeking from you guys:

- Has anybody done anything remotely like this (general cold calls, web design contact generating, etc). Did it work?

- Any tips on my script? How should I approach these local businesses?

- What genre of local business would be a good one for starters? (e.g. local boutiques, car dealerships, etc).

If any of you can give me some suggestions or answer the questions above it would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm new to warrior forum (although I've been reading posts via google searches for years) and any help would be amazing.

Thanks a ton!
-- Alanis

Sweet! I'll check them out. Thank you kindly.

That's awesome. & yeah since we're both delivering the same product just in different variations the marketing outcome should hopefully remain the same. Do you target local businesses? International? What kinds of businesses are generating leads most often?

If you could give me some more insight I'd love that. It's great to meet someone on the forum doing the same thing I hope to begin doing! Appreciate the reply.

Keep the advice coming guys. Thankful for all of it. :]

Im no expert by any means, but i target local businesses, no reason other than its all i have at the moment in the yellow pages. to be honest i dont have enough experience to say what businesses are generating the most leads. Most of my clients so far are roofers, builders and tattoo artists.

Haha, yes, this is a very popular business model, called the Distributed Agency Model. Basically you're doing the lead gen and then handing off projects to your team, wherever they are. You take a cut of the money and distribute payouts to your team once the project is completed. Many companies work this way - google Distributed Agency Model for a better idea of how to put it all together.

Service based businesses are a good fit for this model. Sites that are easy to put together, have general information on them, and usually only have a logo and a couple pictures are ideal.

Whatever way you decide to go, use Jason's scripts. They've made me thousands.

I was looking at outsourcing my cold calling just today. I was looking for a call center that also generates pre-set appointments for me. Check out Three Deep Marketing...They offer cold calling, websites, ppc and much more...I believe this is a business you may want to emulate.

I would recommend starting local sites and ranking them in your local market doctor, dentist, construction, anything you want...once your sites are generating traffic you can charge local businees $ to direct the traffic their way.

My 2 cents....Hope it helps...and good luck!...always respect an entreprenuer

Sweet! I'm definitely hoping to branch out into promoting it in call centers once I have an established team / company with a ton of solid testimonials and a big portfolio.

& I'm definitely going to start that way. Thanks for your opinions, it was a huge help. I appreciate it.

      Best Regards,

Outsourcing telemarketing may be the way to go in the future. But not now.

NO ONE will have the passion, interest and drive that YOU will for promoting your business. Plus, people love talking with the owner. Do it yourself for now. It'll pay off.

I can definitely agree with you there. I've worked in a phone room before so I know some of the disadvantages of running a business through it first hand. I'm definitely going to keep it a 1-man sales thing until I literally can no longer do it just on my own.

I watched that video you suggested, it was great. Thanks for the support, Jason! :]
