Contacting business ownersthrough Yellow Pages email form

Hello Warriors

I have an idea for local business owners with no websites to get online with an entry level website for a low cost, so I want a way to reach them that doesn't take too much time, effort or money.

I though about going through and sending a quick email to business owners with no website via their Yellow Pages or other directory listing. Do you think this is a good idea? Do you contact business owners through their directory listing? Do you think this is bad form or do you know of any other repercussions one might face?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I tried the yellowpages email attempt. I sent 200 emails and received no responses. I did not follow up.

My gut is that the method just isn't effective. I was offering a free guide (100% free) with just an email submit and I received nothing.

    Hiya Lesley,

I think its depends on what kinds businesses do you plan to contact on yellowpages.

Try Craigslist, I have success getting clients from there.

    Best of luck!

When I contact a new business owner out of the blue I don't offer a service and I give them something for free. Like for real for free, no opt-in required.

For instance if I were an SEO service provider I would put together a custom SEO evaluation report of their website and give it to them. Just basically say "Hey, I made this for you, hope it helps." Then I send 2 follow ups 1-2 days apart and maybe one a week later. Second one is to make sure they actually got it and it didn't get stuck in the spam filter, third one is optional and it sort of depends, I might send one that's a final notice and that I'm going to delete the report to free up space on my hosting so I hope they got it or I send one that just asks if there is anything in their business I can help with, any SEO questions I might be able to answer for them.

I'm not sure how Magic uses CL, I've heard good things about CL but I've never had much success with CL. Usually people who want something for nothing and waste a ton of my time. But that could definitely be related to the market I'm targeting, so give it a try, also search google for any free classified ad sites in your area and post there too.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. Natausha I totally get people who want something for nothing and waste a ton of time thing, but I have super streamlined an entry level option just to get them in on the first rung. I've been working the free thing for a while, I may finally just be getting it sussed.

    I'll keep you posted =)
