  • The only problem I see with this theory is: are people going to pay to get a discount card? Would a free oil change, a free battery charge, 50% off an inspection justify someone paying $10 for each card? If they have to pay, then it's not a 'free oil change'.

    • Seriously?

Coupons and discount cards are a huge economy/niche. On the small scale (locally) you have those coupon books that you buy for $20 that have been around forever and are used for fundraisers. On the large scale you have places like Sam's Club, Costco, and Direct Buy that charge a membership fee for the ability to buy bulk items for less than retail.
  • This is brilliant. I love martins posts in this forum, he really does offer so much value and its simple things people really can do!

I'm doing a variation of another method he posted about a while back and its working great for me.

To all of those Warriors who keep wanting to start doing something online but complaining about not having enought money - look at all of Martins threads - if you can't make money from the idea's that he's giving you, then get out of the game!!

Excellent stuff, martin - i look forward to more and more posts from you.

  • Thank you very much for your great post.....

Therapeutically you are correct that We will be able to earn but surely we also have to lose $5000 when we will have to provide our services for them...

    Little complicated...

Anyway, I like your theory a lot... thanx for sharing

I'm sorry...every time I see this thread come up it reminds me to bring up a similar program I did waay baack in the "good-ol" days of 2006.

I got 3 Auto Repair guys to agree to provide 8 FREE Oil Changes over a period of 4 yrs.

Now....these were NOT businesses that ONLY did Oil Changes (like Jiffy Lube)...these were regular "Auto Repair" shops who also could do "Oil Changes".

Now...you ask "Why, would an Auto Repair Shop want to provide FREE Oil Changes?" Because Auto Repair Shops specialize, and are in the business to do ....AUTO REPAIR! Like Tune-Ups...Engine and Transmission Repair!

Thus....when someone brings in their vehicle (Car or truck) for a FREE oil change ($25)....the repair guy can USUALLY find something that needs fixing!

So....sure....they're NOT collecting $25 BUT....having the possibility of making a few hundred on Repairs.

I started out at $59 for 8 Oil Changes and wound up selling the "FREE Oil Change Cards" for $20 from 2 repair shops.

      Heck...we STILL made $400 A DAY....selling 20 Cards.

I've attached the design of the 1st Cards we did.

Don Alm.....Idea Guy and Salesman from waay back

  • A Cincinnati local pizza chain does this. They give a card with 10 or 12 coupons, each good for a third off of price of a single pizza. They give the cards to schools - PTAs - the high school band - school athletic associations - free. The students sell the cards door to door to homes and to businesses for $10 each, and the school (PTA, band, etc.) gets to keep the $10.

They have been running this promotion for years now. It must work.

    • Don,

      Thanks for sharing the story.

Working with schools doing fundraisers is always a huge money maker and success for pizza shops, so yes the reason why that pizza shop has been doing it for years is because he is making money by getting all the new and returning customers.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • Interesting ideas from both Don and Martin.
Since I am too lazy to go door to door...
I did it when I was younger...selling toys, coupon cards, vaccuums, home improvement, etc. And somehow we usually worked until we got a few hundred and then went to the strip club.

So, I think I would target the people that already have a list of prospects.
Just to make it easy on me... Wholesale them to a few auto insurance guys
They can give them away as a part of getting or re-newing a policy.
I would wholesale them for 10 bucks.

    • vndnbrgj,

Yes selling any type of discount card to businesses in bulk to use as an incentive gift to get clients in the door is a great way to sell more cards and build up profits faster.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • I can't see your image. I tried clicking on it and it just sat there and spun for ever. I tried to load it in another browser tab and I got a picture the size of a stamp which I could not make out anything.

I can't believe people would actually pay $10 for these things. What is in it for the merchant, and how do you monetize it?

    • timpears,

Just right click on the image and then click on open in new window and then you should be able to see the image in full size.

Well, you might not believe it, but people do buy these and I have seen other selling them for as much as $25, so when I did it and sold my auto discount cards for $10, it was an easy sale.

      All the best,

      Martin

  • These Card are pure genius I tried this a month ago with a 1000 of them and sold close to 500 doing this part time at 20 bucks a pop mine however were 4 free oil changes with a year exp. date.

  • I've done this before in the past. I utilized option 2, and it definitly worked, although I did make a couple of changes. I found that sometimes you just need to edit some things to help yourself gain more experience. Great thread Martin, like I said before, I always enjoy going thrugh your posts.
