Hosting reselling question?

I am trying to get sell my clients hosting long with web design. First thing that came to mind was 9.99 per month...so it's round $120 per year of recurring income. Nothing much but better than hostgator commissions.

How should I do it?

I am thinking of charging them using PayPal with annual billing. Any better method than that?

- Should I host my clients on my hosting (baby plan) and charge them ?
- OR Get a reseller hosting and sign up myself using my credit card?
- Any other idea ?

Thanks!!

    You need reseller hosting.

And don't just charge them for hosting. Charge them for hosting and monthly maintenance.

I wouldn't charge to host them on your own shared plan. If your going to charge $10/month you might as well tell them to get their own HostGator plan because it would offer better value to the customer and you could collect commissions. Or even better than that, you could suggest something based on the value it offers the customer. HawkHost would be really cheap and would probably offer plenty of space for your clients.

Site is underconstruction, but I think this is relevant.

I want to put a separate charge for monthly maintenance since most of my clients want to add more stuff later by themselves.

Just send them to a web hosting company. What are you going to do when you have a problem that you can't fix?

If you're set on hosting them yourself, then get a reseller plan. DO NOT put these sites as addon domains. That in itself is a major security concern.

I personally think you're better off sending them directly to a hosting company. HostGator is decent, but their servers are frequently overloaded.

I suggest you find a smaller hosting company that has a more quality hosting environment and work some sort of deal with them. They will most likely have a better environment for your customers.

If any of those sites start utilizing actual resources, the big "unlimited" this and that hosts will end up suspending the account. If you want solid hosting advice, go over to Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

99.9% of people here are going to tell you to go to HostGator because it has been passed down over the years for their affiliate program. 80% of those people have never even used another web host. Unfortunately, it's a lot of "mokey see - monkey do" here when it comes to HostGator.

As far as your requirements & budget go, what are you looking for? How many sites do you anticipate on hosting? What will these sites entail?
