Just sealed the deal with my first client on the first meeting!

I had a meeting with my first client to upgrade their listing on my online & mobile restaurant/bar directory. I was a nervous wreck beforehand, but managed to keep my cool during the meeting.

After some small talk and discussion with the 2 business owners, I had them hooked. I'll be picking up a check and signing the agreement for a 6 month upgrade on Friday. At $74.99 per month, I'm looking at around $450. I know that's small potatoes for some of you around here, but for a first timer out in the field like me (and for the fact that I was able to close on my FIRST meeting ever), I can't even begin to explain in words how cool this is.

Seeing something you've built on your own and put in countless hours over the last few months starting to come together is one of the greatest feelings. I still have a LONG way to go, but this is incredibly motivating, nonetheless.

I want to give a BIG shout out to all of the people who contribute here in this offline forum. If it wasn't for all of your success, I wouldn't have been motivated enough to pave my own way and turn a simple and small idea into a full-fledged business boasting with potential.

This is only the beginning of more to come!

Excellent! Well done! I have heard about building a directory before.. is it difficult? Is there a source of info on it you would recommend?

Let us know how you get on with your next meetings go!

I actually did all of the coding and built it myself. For the mobile portion of the directory, I used WillR's mobile site templates as a base. I stripped out quite a bit of stuff and changed things from there, but the templates were a big help in getting the foundation set for the mobile site itself.

Great job. Who cares about small potatoes!

Think about it. You learned something that is getting you paid now...without answering to some douchy boss!

    That's big potatoes to me.

    Congrats!!

Do you mind sharing how you made contact with the business owner?

    Was it a previous relationship?
Did you contact via Facebook or Linkedin?

The first sale is always the hardest!! Congrats again!!

It was actually via a Twitter account I created for my business. They ended up following me so I just reached out via DM. Let them know their bar was listed for free on my directory. They contacted me back to let me know of a new phone number. After making the change, I just shot them a quick message letting them know I'd love to meet with them to show them how to bring more people into their bar.

Surprisingly, they replied with a time and a date (which was today) and I went in and closed the deal. It did help that they already had a vested interest in this and were impressed by the directory itself. Although I was nervous as hell, the directory basically sold itself.

Just goes to show you that you should work almost every potential lead generator available to you. You never know what can happen!

Here's another cool deal - I literally just off of the phone with a new brewery here in town that is opening up soon. Called them up to introduce myself and confirm some info for their free listing. Asked for their e-mail to send them a link of the finished listing and told them I'd share more with them about what we could do for there business. They appreciated it and are looking forward to it.

All of that happened in the last 30 minutes, thanks to Twitter. Another possible sale in the books? I'm thinking so...

I can tell you this - my confidence and motivation is definitely through the roof right now!

    This is awesome - congratulations!

There's no feeling like closing that first sale, regardless of how much it is. It will get easier and easier to make these closes too. Best of luck with future clientele!

Congrats on the first sale! Love that feeling you are talking about. Dont worry about what size potatoes you are bringing in right now. Just get enough billing to the point that you can be selective about your pricing and who you have time for, that is when you go up a potato level.

95% of IM'ers have great relationships with clients who also advertise offline and with other people. Stop missing out on that cash and leverage into it. PM me if you are an established marketer and want to find out how.

Definitely a great feeling for sure, especially after the 3+ months I put in BEFORE I started the process to reach out to businesses. That first sale helps build up the confidence to really kick things up another level!

Just keep doing it from here on... once you get in that zone of knowing how good it feels to make a sale - no matter how small it might be - then you will find out that selling gets a lot easier and a lot more fun. Use that energy to keep move forward.

    Congratulations.
