local service SEO sites should be...

Really simple, one page max, spell out what they do, how they do it and the main thing...how do I contact them.

If I am hurrily searching for a local plumber..the last thing I want to do is watch a video about how to replace a toilet or read articles about plumbing 101. Why do so many do it?

I want to know, can they do the job I need them to do and how do I talk to them. That's it.

Agree or not?

I see too many complicated, long winded local biz sites.

    both agree and disagree

The front page should have everything you're looking for BUT that should be backed up with some other useful content on other pages.

I have always found videos and good content to benefit my websites SEO. There is nothing better for a website than good quality content (including videos). That video that you see on their website is probably ranking for local keywords too. It increases their SEO, increases the traffic to the website, and increases their profits.

Depends on the niche, but yes I definitely agree with you that for things like plumbers, electricians, heating & air, etc. it should be simple with a prominent phone number and contact form.

^^ This is exactly what I am talking about. ^^

I need plumber quick. Do I go through Y.P. or Google" local plumber"? When I find one....can he help me? How do I contact him? That's it......i am not hanging around reading his blog on how he become a plumber. What a load of bull of that stuff is. Thx

So now, I need a wp theme that fits my views. The ones I have seen offer too much information.

    thx

Sounds like you need Scott Blanchard's 'LocalMagic' or 'BizLocal'.

He goes by Clickbump on here but is not here much anymore I think because he has his own forum.

I have a client that has videos of him performing different handyman jobs. He is number 1 for his keywords in his town on Google Local as well as on the organic results. He gets tons of phone calls and a lot of his customers say the videos really swayed them towards him. The videos showed he was confident doing his job and knew what he was doing.

The videos are not on the main page of the site though.

The main page has a list of services and his phone number prominently displayed. He doesn't even use email so there is no contact form or way to email him. He is a small company just him and a couple of other guys and he is busy year round. Every time he pays me he gives me a tip or bonus because of the great results.

By the way I didn't shoot the videos. He had someone working with him shoot the videos from a digital camera so these aren't flashy pro videos.

I don't agree. Good website design will cater for a wide number of needs. So, the hoempage and various landing pages should have clear call to actions and punchy useful info. But, they should also have links to more indepth info for those visitors who prefer to take their time and do a more indepth study. Besides which, more content (that is properly optimised) will always result in more visitors...

i love the one page, no scrolling features and the contact form. but I do not like the sliding image thing. I do not think it's necessary. So again. some great things but some things I do not like.

you are right..most local businesses need a 3 page site at most. A big bright homepage with easy contact information, services they perform, and form submission. Another page with more detail on the services. And another page with possibly map and another form submission. Thats all they need!
