  • In terms of traditional advertising, I would first look at frequency mediums such as radio and cable. Then perhaps broadcast, depending on budget, objectives, demographics etc.

I would strongly suggest you stay away from newspapers, brochures, business cards, yellowpages etc.

I have several clients with whom I have set up with new and traditional media mixes and could probably give you some more pointers if I were to know more. If you wish, send me a pm with contact details if you dont want to post the business info online here.

    • Don't stay away from newspapers, business cards, brochures, yellow pages. That is terrible advice. Use them all, just use them well.

Normally, I sit down and learn about a business but right away I thought of Joint Ventures. Have the business owner figure out the lifetime value of each customer. Then, how much he can spend to get a new customer. Let's say its $100.
So you can partner with auto auctions. Where after every auction included with the paperwork is info on the body shop. For every customer you get from the auction company you pay the auction company $100. You could do the same thing with towing companies. Towing companies can be contracted by the city or county to remove the cars that were left abandoned on the side of the road. They then sell them to re-coup some costs and generate some more cash flow. Again offer $100 for each new customer.
Contact used car dealers and car insurance companies. The insurance companies are usually run by one guy. Who do you think they call when they get into an accident?
A towing comapny (which you have a jv with) and their insurance rep.....

Again you would have to figure out what the auto body shop could pay. $100 was just an example. I have more but that should get you started.

  • You could send out a postcard using the Every Door Direct Mail service provided by USPS. At this time focus on ranking his site for the most popular local keywords you can find. Also, do some research on your local directories - I'm sure you can find some cheap advertising there that could drive in traffic.

    • Hey Dan,

You might want to STOP all marketing before you determine the USP for the business. Without the real unique selling point, all marketing methods implemented will never ever work at it's most optimum ratios
      • talk to the best clients of the business
      • talk to the competitors by playing potential customer
      • talk to the owner and all the staff
      • look at the market to see where the gaps are
      • find out why the true value of the business in the market
Once you have it - use all marketing methods to tell the world. Work inside out of the business rather than outside in. This way you provide even greater value to your current and future clients.

      Regards,
      DT
