Client's website spammed

Hi Offline Warriors

I need your advise and expertise. The client of mine has his website built on Wordpress. From time to time he's getting spammed with 20-30 messages per day sent through his contact form (the contact form is created by Contact Form 7 plugin and is right on the home page).

Is there any way to block it? His website is hosted somewhere with his previous SEO company.

I have all my sites (and clients sites as well) hosted on Hostgator and never had any problem like this.

You might want to link to a Splash page where they can submit their information. That way you can control the submissions better. Little more hassle but an idea. I think all spammers should be hung by their b#*#s with barbed wire... The scum of the earth. You can tell I'm not fond of spam. Big waist of time and money for everyone.

Seems like most of my sites have this issue. So now I add a captcha field to the form and also install akismet.

The captcha field helps a lot because most of the spam is automated and can't go through when they have to manually enter the code.

          Simple.

I do not have any contact form at all. Pointless things they are.

I have a paragraph saying that I hate scumbags, nutters and spammers followed by the best way to get hold of me is to e-mail jimbo13 at whatever dot co dot uk

Or you can just have one of those links that say e-mail which opens an e-mail with the address filled in. Don't know what you would call that though.

I did this as well. The captcha plugin really helped a lot in clearing out spam messages.

Purchase the Askimet plugin API. It's only 5 bucks a month and will save you/your client all that hassle.

Yes, I use a simple captcha plugin to put in a simple math problem at the bottom of the contact form. I also don't provide an email address on the site, I ask for people to use the contact from.

A captcha should filter out most spammers. I have had this issue in the past with comments as well on client's Wordpress sites, and a captcha solved the problem.

A CAPTCHA plugin worked well for me as well, I also had a few clients getting spammed and now I use Contact Form 7 & Really Simple captcha every time I need a form.
