On Being The #1 Market Expert

Why do some people in a profession get paid so much more
while the rest fight over the scraps?

One is told "name your price", while the other gets a sixth of the named price.

The top dog creates his own market and own prices.

Is top dog really that much better than so called competitors?
Nope, because he has a market locked tight.

He has no competitors.

"But how?"

He's the expert who shows more knowledge on the subject than anybody.

He gives freely of information.
He gives what he does a name.

He digs deep on his subject to research and find case studies,
information that he can freely quote to show others how they
benefited.

He becomes the magnet because they want what he talks about.

You can see how I created the biggest authority on web design
for my client in another post I made. $25,000 worth of business it brought in within 2 days.

I've trained a copywriter to do the same thing.

He's making an app developer the biggest authority
by freely giving out information to his clearly defined target market.

The copywriter will take himself out of the mosh pit of the copywriting world
and brand himself on the lines of guru maker.

Because when you elevate your client and yourself as the expert
and name your unique expertise, then you get paid more.

The top dog gets disproportionate more money
than the next down on the food chain.

Think of it as the Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule.

You get to choose more who you work with too.

And here's the weird thing, those others down the food chain
often have access to the same knowledge as the top guy!

What they didn't do is know how to package it.

Guru status is not such a big mystery anymore.

Enjoy,
Ewen

Yes you take the name 6 Sigma as an example. It's a business process
        used in large corporations.

        • just looking at news. Maybe this is a good one.

and, a good lead to sell this idea to ?

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (CBS Seattle) — One doctor is calling for the end to the “war on pubic hair.”

Family physician Emily Gibson made headlines recently for her public assertion that modern women should shy away from the practice of bikini waxing – which she referred to as the “war on pubic hair” – as the practice increases risk of various infections.

sounds like alot of names you can come up with for her "Name" ?????

A waxing salon could build on that publicity by saying,
"Sure go back to cave man days, but if you want to be a modern woman,
            then be waxed."

You've drawn the new line by giving it a name and creating the stark divide.

You're on the genius side of the fine line between genius and insanity. Wish you weren't so far away. New Zealand is too far away to offer a roast beef dinner to meet you!

      Not always.

Take a top serving waitress, she will always have a ceiling as to what she can make.

Where you can make lot's of business's lot's of money,
then suddenly you put yourself in the money flow.

Great stuff and so true. After doing online marketing for years now I can tell you from experience the 80/20 rule works for everything. Also, that if you brand yourself correctly (as the expert) then you will have no equal. There is a reason why they call them Kleenex and not tissues.

Unfortunately the Google Adwords top spot is taken by Perry Marshall in people's mind
if you were to teach your expertise.

When faced with this, you can split the market up like the Mouthwash companies did.

One took the kills bad breath approach and used a scientific name
which causes bad breath. The other hang the label medicine breath on them...Ooch!

That's a really good point Ewen. I'm working on transitioning now over to teaching and I think Perry has been in PPC as long as I have or a little longer. But, he's got that name recognition. I'm trying to position myself teaching ppc local. I'm working on an online video training center right now. I like Perry a lot. But for business I do need to find a way to call him medicine breath though.

That reminds me. Do you know if it's possible to change your username? Looking at using my real name.

Lol, you won't need to publicly hang that label on him
because the name local PPC isn't firmly attached to anybody.

You've come up with a vacant piece of real estate in the mind...well done!

Great post Ewen, it has much to do as branding yourself as a leader in your industry. Clients will do research on you before hiring you...LinkedIn, Facebook Page etc....if you don't look like an expert and have history of providing good content. They will chose the guy/gal that does.
