Anyway to check if a business has claimed their Goolge+ Local listing?

Has anyone been able to find a way to see if we can check whether a business has claimed and/or verified their Google Places/Google+ Local listing?

Before we were able to tell right away, but since the change to Google+ Local I have not been able to find a way to check this. I know a few softwares are able to look this info up so if that's possible then there should be a manual way of doing it as well.

Also should when I'm emailing/mailing businesses to offer this Google+ Local service can I still refer to them as "not claiming your Google Places listing" or would should I say "not claiming your Google+ Local listing". The reason I ask is the url that businesses would go to claim their listings is "http://www.google.com/places/" but that has now 2 options on that page...left side is for Google+ and right side is to claim your listing. So in my email/letter should I stick with the new name of "Google+ Local" and when I give them the url to tell them to click on the right side to claim their listings?

When you open the listing, if you see a section that says..."From the owner:" it is claimed.

I was reading another post (http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...id-delays.html) in this forum regarding this issue and in that post it was mentioned the following after you have log into in your Google account:

"Click on "manage this listing" found along the right, beneath the main image under the heading: "IS THIS YOUR BUSINESS?"

Step 3: If the listing is NOT already claimed, you'll be given 3 options:

      - Edit my business information.
      - Suspend this listing.
      - This isn't my listing.

If you're prompted to enter a phone number, then the listing in question is already claimed....
      "

I noticed that I got the 3 options for a business even though they had "From the owner..." section. So I'm not sure checking for the "from the owner" section is a valid way to see if the listing is claimed or not.

Anyone else have any input on this matter?

Ya KungFuBacklinks who posted that tip in that other thread got that I think from either posts I've made about it at the Google forum or at my Local Search Forum where he's a member. I discovered it and gave detailed instructions there, but basically the above is correct.

One additional tip though, if you ARE logged into a Google account that has a Place page attached to it, then if you click Manage this Page on a listing you are trying to check to see if it's verified, it won't go to phone look up, it will load your own dashboard.

So if verified it will load your own dash if you are logged in - or if not it will go to phone look up screen.
If NOT verified it goes to the screen above that gives you the 3 options.

OWNER DESCRIPTION showing or images or categories, does not necessarily mean it's claimed. There are problems like split dupes that can cause a listing to become UNclaimed and still have owner data on the live listing for awhile. So for troubleshooting existing client listings even, it's good to know how to check for verification.

Linda, your tips on how to avoid creating a duplicate listing were so great, I couldn't resist sharing here.

Anyway, I did check on a client's listing recently and was forwarded to the "phone number search page." Just to see what would happen, I entered the number for the listing I just clicked on... sure enough, it let me claim the listing! We verified it via phone call.

I noticed that when not altering anything on the listing and just skipping directly to "submit" to claim, I get phone verification 99% of the time.

Yeah, I would say the sure way to know if something is claimed would be to attempt all steps mentioned before, but to also try searching by phone number and claiming that way. If you get the message that only the page owner can edit the listing, then you know for sure that it is claimed.

I just check on a potential client's site and did the following:

"Click on "manage this listing" found along the right, beneath the main image under the heading: "IS THIS YOUR BUSINESS?"

Step 3: If the listing is NOT already claimed, you'll be given 3 options:

      - This isn't my listing.

If you're prompted to enter a phone number, then the listing in question is already claimed...."

and got the above 3 options since it is not claimed. So it seems to be still working.

Is this the latest on how to check for verification on the fly?

I can't seem to get the same results.
