Need Help With SMS Marketing

Hey all I'm looking for help on an SMS marketing campaign I want to test. Does anyone know if there is a service that would allow someone text a short code to a number that would reply back with a message asking them to enter their name and email into an opt-in form from Aweber?

Basically I want to do this. Have letters, postcards, or flyers say Text "Free Report" to 11234 and get a free report how to increase sales for your business. They would then get a text back asking them for their name and email. Once they opted in my auto responder will email them a free report and they would be added to my follow up campaign.

Anyone know if this is possible and any services that would set this up?

Thanks
Patrick

It may just be me.... but I can't see a lot of people reading the report on their phone.

The report will be sent to their email address. My main goal is to just capture their name and email in my Aweber account to build my list up.

I really don't think your going to have great results doing: text the number 11111 philapm... Then they receive an add right away. I would suggest promoting your website and then on your website promote your aweber list. If they like what you are giving out to them in exchange for their information and you get enough traffic to your page you will get opt-ins. Hope that helps.

It's not an ad in the text. The Ad is either a flyer, post card, bandit sight, news paper ad etc offering the Free Report. They are texting to get the free report which they need to opt-in to my auto responder first to get instant access.

Why don't you just have your add go to a page where they can opt instead of adding another step for them to do that?

While I won't say this wouldn't work here are the problems I see.

    1. Why all the extra steps? Why not send them a text with the link? You added them to your text marketing list.

    2. Want them on the email list too? Why not send another text with a link asking them to join it a few days later. Your report has value right? If so why wouldn't they want more value from you?

    3. Why does everyone here treat offline marketing like normal internet marketing? I mean really do you think a busy business owner is going to take the time to text you to get a digital report? These owners are often old school and will not see value in the fact it is free and digital. They know it didn't cost you anything and their time is money. Also many of them are over worked because they build jobs not businesses. So they don't have time. So if you think the report has value and that it will sell them on your value why not do this in an offline way.
    - Print the report
    - Buy report binders (like for high school)
    - Buy document envelops
    - Go to your bank and get some two (or even one) dollar bills
    - Hand address the envelops
    - Hand stamp them (real stamps)
    - Put the report in the binder
    - Clip the two dollar bill to the front
    - Put a post it not next to the two dollar bill (I know you time is valuable. Consider this my payment for your time to read this report.)
    - Put in envelops and mail
-If they do not call you follow up like 2 or 3 days after it should have got there.

If the report had value and your service has value you will close some people.

Who said im targeting business owners. I'm actually targeting people who want to work from home or make extra money. I figure text message would be easier since they could respond to it right away as apposed to them waiting until they are in front of a computer and possibly forgetting. Other option is to have an 800# with a recorded message that directs them to web page to opt-in.

It's not my job to tell you whether or not you should do this......

to give you an answer to your question, when they text the keyword to your shortcode, I would have the autoresponder send them a link to your opt-in page. I would make it a Mobile Landing Page so that it's easy for them to navigate. Probably just a "picture of the report" with an email field right below it. Keep it simple.........

The only push back I see, is you tell them all they have to do is text "keyword" to "shortcode" to get the report....... adding in another step could frustrate some people but ultimately the people who want it will fill in their email address also.

      Hi Guys,

I'm new to SMS Text Marketing too, but couldn't the "keyword" be the recipient's email address? I mean couldn't you say: "Text your email to 5555 for a free report" (or whatever item of value you have), and the email go directly into an autoresponder? That would be one step instead of two, but is something like that doable?
