Best Google Places WSO?

I want to bring myself up to speed on Google Places. What WSO (s) will give me the best education and tools to talk & work intelligently with clients about this market and help them?

    First off... Google Places is now Google Plus Local So understanding that update is a good first step.

    I would then suggest you spend time on the Google support forums and on Linda Buquet's forum here: Local Search Forum

    There's a lot you need to stay up-to-date on.

    As far as courses go... nothing beats David Sprague's Maps Marketing Blueprint. It's pricey, but it's the most comprehensive course on doing G+ Local. WSOs just scratch the surface.

    There's a WSO called Google Places Takeover, but I think it's near $100, so it's way overpriced for what you get. David's stuff is much more valuable.

    I wish I could recommend something cheap... but I can't. G+ Local is a minefield and to really do a good job for clients there's a lot to learn.

    David doesn't leave much out in his program. He covers how to optimize the images and videos (hint: this goes way beyond geo-tagging), he covers how to tie business listings, website and G+ Local listing together, and where I think he really shines - he goes over how to optimize the website. It is a very meaty course, and if you follow his instructions to a "T" you'll be doing very well for your clients.

    His stuff is a fantastic foundation and will get you thinking in the right way about G+ local so you can easily start to expand on what he does to make it even more effective.

    I must say, it's not for the faint of heart. Lots of material and it's a big commitment if you want to get good at it, but it's well worth it and I have never seen a course that even approaches the depth that he goes into.

    Hey Wags,

    I believe he's talking about David's program.

    He certainly does offer a lot of ongoing training to not just help with doing the work, but with closing business, too. The man does very well with his business, and he seems to have built a small empire with helping other offliners, too. He offers a lot of training and advice so you can even build your own team to do the work. In fact... in practically rams that down your throat LOL

    I'm especially fond of his tools... they help you organize busines, optimize images, videos and even setup authorship tagging, etc. For the non-technical, they deliver fantastic value.

    When I first bought into his program, I was near-broke... best $200 I ever spent, and looking back, I'd easily spend twice that (good thing because it's more expensive now, I'm sure). But you need to actually study, practice and even do free work if needed just so you can get good at it, get experience and start turning out good work for clients.

      Patrick, thanks so much for mentioning my Local Search Forum! Much appreciated and have to agree it's a good place to stay on top of what's going on.

      I've heard good things about David's course too, but have not taken it personally.

      I would just caution that there are a LOT of WSOs that teach things that are against Google guidelines. If you are planning to build a REAL business, helping REAL businesses like Dentists and Attorneys with their local rankings you REALLY don't want to risk getting them suspended. I help consultants all day long who learned the wrong methods and were told "it's OK, don't worry about it" and then cry and lose sleep for weeks trying to unravel the mess when their clients lose their listings. So don't be that guy. Even some of the higher end courses and more respected WSOs teach stuff that's not kosher and can get your clients in trouble with Google.

      So I say investigate, pick the WSO carefully. Then no matter what they teach you read the Google guidelines carefully and study the Google forum to be sure you understand all the current practices that can get a listing suspended, rejected, pending review or totally deleted.

    Absolutely, Linda! You're very welcome. Your forum needs to be shared. Fantastic resource.

    I would like to also add that the creators of these WSOs usually don't know that what they are teaching could be so harmful, and I'm willing to bet that many would revamp their guides if they realized it.
