Lead Generation Idea : Please Tell Me How This Wouldn't Work

So, I had an idea for lead generation.

Step 1. Create and rank a generic website for a vertical in a town, such as 'www.findaplumbernewyork.com'

Step 2. Organic SEO the site for industry related keywords in the town, such as 'plumber new york' etc.

Step 3. Market the site to promote the following features :

- Visitors fill out a contact form with their plumbing needs, which is then emailed to 6-12 various plumbers in the New York area.

- The following benefits occur :

A. The visitor then gets to judge each specific plumbers reaction time to the inquiry, quoted price, general demeanor and various other benefits.

B. Each plumber who signs up to receive the inquiry is only charged for each email, somewhere in the price range of $5-$10 IE Pay-per-lead.

C. You, as the website provider, take lead payments from as many plumbers as you can sign up for the service, turning dozens of leads over per month for lots of money.

Can anyone spot issues/problems they see with this business model? It seems a very small tweak from what some people do already with Pay-per-lead.

I think it's more of a 'crowd sourcing' for quotes kind of idea, what do people think?

EDIT : Now that I think about it, it's kind of like creating PPC with email on your own websites. So the plumbers pay for each email from interested visitors.

Search around a bit and you'll see there are tons of sites that does this exact thing. It can definitely work with the right amount of motivation and consistency, then again.. most things do.

    1. Phone leads convert better than email leads.

    2. You can charge more for exclusivity.

    3. Do NOT lease the sites, charge per lead or % of job.

There's a US company called Service Magic. Research them. They do the model you outlined roughly... giving leads to up to 5 service providers. Charge a tidy sum... but have a shitty reputation for various reasons.

Just saw a webinar on this the other day. Have done this in the past, about to start up again.

As mentioned, Phone works, converts and can be charged out for more money that email leads.

I would keep the number of potential clients for niche/site a smaller number, 5-6. It makes it so that the leads do not feel watered down and the client feels that they are getting value from the service. If not, you might be spending a lot of time and effort continually trying to replaced clients that leave. I would work out a small formula, so if the site has the potential to bring in X number of leads, that equates to Y number of clients MAX for that site.

i've had about the same idea but for the real estate.
    i would collect the leads
invite real estate agents to signup for free to my site
they would see a pool of leads and would grab only the ones they were interested in
they would pay like $5/$10 for each lead and only after payment was made they could see the lead contacts.
i could sell also packages like
    for $50/month get 15 leads
    for $100/month get 40 leads
    for $500/month access all leads
since there are lots of real estate agents and $5/$10 is cheap for a real estate lead i think this could be a very profitable business model.

You should have exclusive vendors for set zip codes and charge per lead offering discounts for larger quantity leads purchased. You can also set different prices on leads depending on filters selected.

Insurance business is all over this concept.

Shared internet leads suck for agents.

I run an electrical contracting business and I would never buy an email lead. How do I know those are legit emails and not some guy hired from Fiverr pumping out fake emails.

Because you could cancel at any time, and you have my business name etc that would be ruined since I would quickly build a reputation for being a scammer.

Aside from SEO you can also try to buy business contact list for your specific industry. As I surf over the net contactdb.com is one of the top database list vendor, they have list from Asian country like Australia and Singapore. They have an affiliate program as well. Register and you will get $100 free start up credit. You can use that credit to test the accuracy of the lists.

Cold calling is still the best lead generation technique. It maybe an old way but it is still 100% useful. Get your ROI the way you want to then go for cold calling/telemarketing campaign.
