Examples of effective local lead generation sites

I'm exploring the idea of creating and ranking a local lead gen site to attract homeowner leads to sell to service providers, like "electrician salt lake city". But as I look into the lead-selling or rent-a-site model, I'm wondering what is in it for the visitor...

Who exactly do they think owns the site and who do they think is going to contact them? How to position their need to be contacted?

How to prepare them or deal with them getting called 3 times if you sell the lead to 3 people.

Doesn't Google Places push down your ranking quite a bit? There are 11 Places and 3 Sponsored ads ahead of me in Google SERPs.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could send a link showing an example of an effective local lead gen site as the model looks good but I've never really seen one that a Joe Schmoe has made on Wordpress (no offense.

I'd like to get some more info on this as well. Anyone have any example of sites to share?

I learned these models from a pretty good guy who taught a method like THIS ONE <-------Example

I see he still hasn't updated the look, but the idea is that the site is written by a concerned citizen who found a good _______ (painter/electrician/dog groomer..etc) and recommends them.

I think the model works well ONCE you have someone renting out the site (somewhere to send the visitors). For attracting clients who will rent out the site, I found that it doesn't work passively, so you can still plan on contacting business owners to sell them the space on the site most likely.

These sites rank insanely easy if you don't suck at SEO, and they are easy enough to create.

    Hope that helps a little.

The above site seems so simple. What would you expect to be making from this site monthly?

Yea, that model is really simple. I think something like that would be in the $200 - $500 per month range, but as with anything...it would depend on the market.

If a site like that gets 50 visits a day from hungry buyers, then it would be worth a lot to a potential client.

Great example Wally, thanks! This site's hook probably only works when selling the lead to one local business, but that angle might be the way to go at least until I've sold a few leads and want to make more per lead.
