I will take the example of a pizzeria to illustrate my thoughts here.

Lots of pizza places have a loyalty card, They put a stamp on it for each pizza you order, and after 10 stamps you get a free pizza.

What would it take to bring this to mobile? Is there such a thing already?

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks.

If all the users would have a smart phone you could make an App for this.

Also you could offer the choice between a digital app vs a card to those who don't have a smart phone or wouldn' want to use it.

But sometimes the question you need to ask is, "Do I need to reinvent the wheel?" Basically is the card version outdated? Would a digital version be better? Or are you simply making a change that your end user customers will not want.

A lot of us who buy these card really do it just because we like the kid. I normally use the card 2 times or less so it doesn;'t really need to be an app IMO. In time i just toss the card from my wallet.

    Here the cards are free!

I would see a benefit for the pizza place to be able to send out deals easily, just as you would do with sms, except it would be free... plus it saves money on priniting, plus ppl don t throw it away, don t forget it when they come.

I still see some benefits. But keep countering them please.

I like it being integrated similar to how grocery stores do with a key ring card that can be scanned.

The main problem I see with this is that it needs hardware. This should be able to work without hardware so the investment doesn t come too expensive.

This app could be sold to restaurants and retail stores for a monthly fee.

    Yes, it's currently being done.
I know that my mobile platform has this feature, but I've yet to implement it.
I have, however, been toying around with some sample campaigns and plan to roll
out some campaigns in the near future.

There's no need for an app, as you can do this with text only (if your platform allows).
This way, you can include most cell phone users (vs. only those with smartphones).

Here are some sources that may give you some ideas & inspiration:

There is also Punchcard.com which I saw the other day at Subway... that one is pretty neat, if it actually works (it seemed to be buggy on my test).

The problem is I can t find a good text service provider in my country. I'll look at the links you shared, but chances are it s not working in my country either.

    Thanks.

Coffee Cash, we're currently doing this and it's going well. My biggest complaint about traditional punch cards is that they don't build a relationship with your customer. I believe that putting loyalty rewards together with SMS is the perfect way to start a great connection with customers. You reward them for their loyalty plus you give them a reason to join your SMS program. Check out what we're doing at MobileLoyal.net
