Getting targeted traffic to client sites?

Hi Guys,

Given that SEO is much harder these days and shouldn't be your only method of getting targeted customers to client websites - what are the various other methods of getting your client websites in front of their potential customers online?

I know the obvious ones such as Classified ads and PPC, but just wondered what other good methods/techniques there are to work alongside SEO? i.e. to start bringing targeted traffic in the short term whilst SEO works over the long term..?

Thanks guys!
Steve.

    Hi Steve,

Good Question, firstly, it very much depends what verticals your clients are in as to what traffic types are appropriate. Also, SEO isnt any harder, its just different and the reality is that smart SEO's are still well and truly ranking because they have been evolving prior to some of the recent changes.

Okay, now on to traffic sources, besides PPC you can try PPV companies like lead impact where you are paying for interstitial or pop under ads. You can also start looking at display/media buying and you could potentially also look at driving traffic through mailing campaigns based on leased/rented lists from a commerical broker.

Anyway, thats just a couple of ideas but, as mentioned, it really depends on your client's vertical.

Hope that gives you a couple of ideas.

Find low level authority leaders on Face Book,(1,000+ Fans) around the sites niche, give them something to make them look cool in front of their fans to show off with and promote the target site you want them to.

Many can be persuaded for items less than $25

    Thanks guys!

I would prob not have thought of some of those things - do popup/popunder campaigns still work? So many poor quality/scam ones around....any good ones to use?

Also, what about articles & press releases - do these work?

    Cheers,
    Steve.

I like PPV around event driven situations where the target is spending big $ in a push.

Well have you thought of buying leads from leading selling sites? you can also use craiglist to post up ads for free. Seo is mainly the most efficient traffic source.

I agree with BKKBound. As "Quality" SEO services aren't very hard to do or even afford. But remember the work has to be perfectly optimized neither less nor more. And yes! Article submission or press releases are absolutely cool and effective techniques as well. Go ahead.

You were looking to alternatives to SEO, due to it being hard, which is far from the thruth.
But, then you go on to mention classifieds, articles, and press releases???

Why would you say that when all 3 of those are used in effective SEO???

Because I was wondering about using classifieds, articles and press releases as methods to drive traffic directly to the website as well as using them for SEO purposes.

Things like PPV need to be extremely targeted to be even remotely useful, you'll need to buy around 10,000 views to even gather any useful statistics as essentially they are generated using spam, although not technically spam, pop unders are only a tiny bit less annoying.

Classifieds are also a hard traffic generator, you need to target the right sites as well as have some pretty good copywriting skills to really generate any decent traffic. And even then the conversion rates can be disgustingly low.

If you just want visits then use PPV, but of you want targeted visits, you can grab yourself thousands of visits using social media, interact with the industry the site is in and you can get 1000 visits to your site in the first few days.

To generate stats on conversions and to test sites the quickest and easiest, which goes hand in hand with being the most expensive is PPC, I always use PPC, Facebook, LinkedIn, ad centre, Adwords etc etc to drive targeted traffic to my sites and test keywords and conversion rates.

Once you have keywords that work concentrate your SEO efforts on them.

If you're looking for cheap and fast, social media engagement is your best bet. If you've got money PPC is your best friend. I personally wouldn't waste time on PPV.
