Made A Big Mistake With A Client's Site (Won't Be Doing That Again!)

I took on a new client about 8 weeks ago and it has been an absolute nightmare!

They needed their website rebranding and editing and being the opportunist soul that I am, I jumped at the chance. This is fast cash and can be outsourced before you can even say "I'm finished".

What I normally do is contact my outsourcer and give them the url of the client's site and tell them to get to work and do a review for me. Normally, this works out just fine and I can get the project finished in under a week and delivered back to the client after three (don't want to rush the delivery back to the client, that's just silly).

Coding Is Fu*ked Up!

What I didn't forsee, was that the coding of the site was so messed up by the original designer, that when my guy went to work, he started editing the code and made a complete hash of it. Now, I know what you're thinking, "he should have done this on a different server", actually, he did and the client's site hasn't been touched. Now, 4 weeks down the line, my guy's still trying to get this coding to work and this is now costing me an absolute fortune, not good .

New Code It Is Then.....

So I decided to get him to write completely new code in a language he's familiar with and it took him 8 days.

So lesson learned. If a client asks you to redesign their site, make sure you instruct your coder to re-code the entire site and not use the existing one. This can only spell trouble.

I've now run over budget and in essence, paying the client to rebrand and redesign his site Economics 101 I don't think!

The Moral Of The Story Is......

Thankfully, there is a happy ending. The site has now been delivered, fully functioning and all bells and whistles are in tact.

It's funny, even though you do these sort of projects a thousand times, there's always one that throws a monkey wrench into the system.

In future I won't mess around with anyone else's code. It takes up too much time and costs you $$$ in over run costs!
