Anyone Have Any Suggestions For A Book Publisher?

Hey,

I am creating a book, and plan on having it made into a print version.
Along with a digital version for Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, iPad, etc.

I have never printed a book before. But, I am putting one together and would like to start getting everything together. I plan on releasing it on Jan. 1, 2013.

I am currently looking at Lulu and OutSkirt Press
I need a Print On Demand publisher. Due to the way the marketing will be done. I will have a "sales force" of over 150 people promoting it, and buying their own copies.

By the way... Did you know it can cost $2,000 just to get everything setup.

Use Amazon.com and their "Createspace" publishing on demand setup. They have templates to use, covers, ISPN numbers, and more. You can actually do everything yourself for free. But they offer services.

You'll be in Amazon, someone buys a copy, and you get the bulk of the money less printing cost. You can also buy copies for yourself to sell for a few dollars a copy.

I have a friend that has 13 books out this year, making a nice living just from the book sales. All free from Createspace.

Don't go to a book printer until you have hundreds of copies sold. You'll find mistakes and you've already printed a few thousand copies. Trust me, I know how that feels.
    Use Createspace.

You can make changes in your text for free, and they appear in the next copy sold. No upfront costs. It's amazing.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

My vote goes to CreateSpace as well. Much easier and far more affordable.

I looked at CreateSpace and saw a ton of terrible reviews.

Plus, then I am limited to Amazon.
The other two, offer Print On Demand. So, if there was an issue, I could fix it before the next copy went out the door.

The majority of the services I will be paying for, are things I am not familiar with.
Proper formatting, adding a barcode, submitting to everywhere, handling fulfillment, designing the cover, contacting submissions, etc.

I am not familiar with the book writing process at all.
I just had an idea for a book, and now have to figure out how to execute.

Actually you aren't limited to Amazon. You can buy copies, just like from any book printer, and ship them to any online book seller you want.
It's just that Amazon won't sell through these other outlets.

I don't know about the reviews, but I know three authors that swear by them. But...they recently stopped publishing compiled content. You have to really write the book.

You can also get the book printed at www.48hrbooks.com It's about the cheapest small run book printer I've seen.

There is no mystery. Any book printer can handle all of this for you cheaply and easily.

Why are you looking to write a book?

I assume to position yourself as the expert in your industry?

I just published my first book a little over a month ago and went with CreateSpace & KDP. I did not have any issue with it and it was a very wise business decision and recommend all offline marketer do so. It's really not that hard to do, plenty of information on this forum.

Also, this forum is loaded with people who can do all the things you are looking for (writing/formatting/editing/cover design/etc.)

If you have any specific questions I would e more than happy to help..

Here is what I found for CreateSpace as far as reviews:
    CreateSpace Complaints

I will look at some of the suggestions mentioned.

As far as writing it to become an expert.... Not at all.
It will act as a foot in the door for me.
I will help business owners stand out from the competition.
I may not make a whole lot on the deal. Maybe $5k.
But, it will be recurring, help business owners make more, and help their clients.

If I contacted you and offered a way to make more.
Then fulfilled my end. And a month later said, let's take it to the next level.
You would be a lot more willing, than if I pitched you without making you money first.

I read the complaints. They are writers that just want to complain. If you have 10,000 happy customers and 6 complainers, that's pretty darn good.

Positioning yourself as an expert, and getting your foot in the door are the same thing. A good self published book is a business card, brochure, testimonial, sales letter, and gift all rolled into one.

Whatever the reason, it's a smart move.
