What do you use to host demo sites for clients?

For those who make mock-up websites for clients, what platform do you find best to do this?

No platform needed, just use your shared host and add a subdomain.
You can also password protect via .htaccess if needed (Google is your friend).

No need for subdomain, just create folders

    yourdomain.com/site1/
    yourdomain.com/site2/

That's exactly how we do it.

We can then send them a direct link by text or email, as well as pull it up on our iPad in front of the client to walk them through it and get suggestions/feedback from them.

You can do it this way,
It wreaks havoc with relative URLs though when you move clients over to their domain.

I use backup plugin I've bought (WSO), it changed all URLs to new URLs (yes, every single one of them)

Strangely, many people claimed the plugin doesn't work, saying the creator scammed ... and the WSO was closed.

I've cloned hundreds of sites using that plugin.

    I'm the same:

    clientscompany.mysite.com

If you use the likes of hostgator it's just a case of setting up the subdomain (clientscompany) and then doing the quickinstall wordpress on it

I have a whole bunch of extra domains so I just pick one and work on it on a completely different domain. If I have complete control over their domain then I do it right on their domain. I don't really create mock-ups though I start making the site and ask for opinions along the way.

I usually use dot tk domains as they are free.

For hosting I use either my own hosting account or if I am working with some crappy code I use Free Web Hosting with PHP, MySQL and cPanel, No Ads for free hosting.

You can get anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.
