After Sting Operation, Yelp Outs 8 Businesses That It Caught Trying To Buy Reviews

Not surprised by this, companies have been paying for fake reviews for ever. Just go to Fiverr to see the amount of review gigs.

On the flipside yelp has been accused of
Shaking people down to maintain a rating. Not that buying reviews is right.

So much seemingly "unbiased" information is being distributed. I knew I was naive about how advertising worked, but after working in the industry post-grad I was shocked by how far some of it goes. I strive to maintain honesty and integrity in my work, but I have read some other posts out there that are plainly steering people in the wrong direction simply for profit. Very unfortunate.

I don't want to say that everything you read has been influenced by the money behind it, but on the web, remember that everything is tracked, and everyone has an opinion - but most of them have been paid to keep it in line with their company. I think the best way you can find impartial information is by carefully examining the content you are reading, and if you think the information has been skewed in one direction, try looking in the opposite direction too - after all, the truth tends to lie somewhere in the middle. Hope this helped!

Their algorithm might hide 5 star fake reviews but I wonder if it hides negative ones. I have seen 5 start reviews hidden many times but not 1 star reviews. Maybe I have not been looking in the right place and maybe...
