Finding the correct business mailing address...

While I use a mix of client solicitation methods, I'm experimenting more with direct mail since I've had about a 2% return using postcards followed by personal letters (offering mobile websites to restaurants)

My success rate could actually get higher than that because I'm not getting through to everyone.with the mailing. I'm sending my material to the restaurants physical address listed on the website and some of it is coming back as undeliverable.

Obviously, some business owners use other mailing addresses/ P.O. boxes
which are not readily found

Does anyone know any resources/techniques to track down the right mailing address without calling the business to ask directly?

Instead of doing a mass mail-out, why not target a specific niche. Do a couple of jobs for free or a reduced amount and then use these as testimonials and examples of your work. I did this with local takeaways and they all jump on board since they don't want to be outdone by their rivals

I get more work through testimonials than any other form of marketing.

Your absolutely right, Desmond, about testimonials (and personal referrals). These are your strongest leads, and are usually "in the bag", once the process has begun.

I'm pretty much targeting only restaurants at this point, so that's my niche.

I did get some work from the mailings, so I'm encouraged to keep the system going, but since it doesn't take me but a couple of hours to create a mobile site, I think I'll offer it free/cheap in exchange for a testimonial. Like you said, business owners don't want their competition getting one up on them. Another strategy to try. Thanks
