Anybody want to talk about ads and their response...questions?

I'm taking a break from writing a webinar script,
so anybody want to talk about or ask me questions about the subject?

I'm all ears!

Best,
Ewen

    Kinda...

This might be asking a lot, so don't feel obligated.

Could you post links to where you showed examples of copy?
    Particularly the home improvement one?

      Here's the home renovations one.

This one did what few ads do, in any market, do...
nail who the ideal prospect is, and only talk to that person.

In this case, it's the lady of the home.

It ticked off a number of situations in which she
      finds aggravating.

      There is a limited offer.

There is a woman at the other end of the phone,
which makes it more comfortable for her to call.

If you can get into your ideal prospects world and match your message to it better than your competitors.
Then place it in front of enough high probability prospects.

      Best,
      Ewen

I do have some questions for you...
    These may be lengthy...

What are the most vital components of a good ad or good copy?

    Where can one learn more?

I know these are general, but they will help me as well as others I'm sure.
I am learning more about copywriting. I have been listening to a lot of Gary Halbert and John Carlton lately. Any others you recommend?

I would like to know these as well, I have had some small success with ad copy but we are talking a pebble on the beach compared to yourself and others. Would just like to have a better understanding.

Research first for three quarters of your time.

You research who your most likely prospect is.

What does this person believe in and what's their experience on your subject.

You do this, not to change their minds, but to match your message to what this person already believes in.

You always start the ad conversation where you believe this person has
a deep emotional and pressing want that hasn't been satisfied.

This demonstrates to the reader you understand this persons world.

Not only that, you've done it better and more concise than anybody else has.

Now you've got a good hearing.

Don't betray the reader's fleeting trust by making claims which can't
be backed up by undeniable proof.

It's more important to be clear than using the force of persuasion
more than ever in this un-trusting world.

Always look for more ways to demonstrate what you say is true.

Look for ways to edit your words and sentences for impact.

Many words are shop-soiled and don't carry a punch any more
      because they have been overused.

      Never write to motivate.

Write to the person who is already motivated.

Those are key points which make a BIG difference.

And are rarely talked about or understood,
therefore my advantage can now be yours.

      Thanks for the question.

      Best,
      Ewen

Holding copy quality even, what/is there a best direct mail type (IE postcard, snap pack, personal letter, etc) that consistently produces better response if targeting business owners? Sans FedEx/UPS, etc...

If your goal is to get a 1-on-1 sales consultation with a prospect in order to suggest a customized solution, how would you approach crafting a direct response piece -- IE, sell long and hard to get really qualified leads, or pique interest enough to get many calling in and let your sales associates qualify?

    Thanks.

      Great question.

My preference would be to pique their interest and leaving them in a state of suspense.

Teaching and giving answers to questions can be a mistake in advertising
because they now have no need for you.

Can you qualify the leads better at the front end, if need be?

No sorry I haven't written one for it or know of any good ones.

If you post any that you think are good then we can see how to make them better.

Here's an ad that showcases who the real buyer is.

Once again I show this to drive home the message to do your research
on who your real buyer is.

In this case it's women who have a male partner they would like to
        smarten up a bit.

Most marketers ignore the biggest controller of spending, women.

        BIG mistake.

        Anyway here's the barber ad.

        Enjoy!

      Wow that is fantastic.

Well done for leaving in the same elements.

I had forgotten about that ad.
It was a Yellow pages one I showed as well as the
previous one and the revenue generated in comparison.

Must be a very happy client.

      Thanks for publicly showing it.

Mind sharing whether it will be going to a targeted list or a saturation mailing?

Using the Bob Ross m3 method?

Yep M3 method. Most likely it will be a saturation mailing of 5,000.

I'm wondering how it would work if we tied it into a landing page for a PPC campaign....I'd like to know your thoughts on this.

For a PPC campaign I would make a new landing page especially for it.

The whole page will have just phone number, one sentence of text
which is the same as in your Adwords ad and a form for them to leave their question and contact details.

Still have navigation bar and the terms and conditions, privacy policy and site map for Google.

          Best,
          Ewen

p.s. How much closer to the agreed payment are you?
