I made my First Cold Call today !

Hello Everybody,

Today, i made my first cold call ! It was for a website creation and I called a french lawyer. I prepared a script :

Me : hello, xxx at the phone
Her : Yes
M : It is a bad time to call
H : No (give me a time please) /Yes
M : I found your number on YP searching on google for "lawyer in xxxx" I saw that you don't have a website. Did you know that xxx people are searching "lawyer in xxxxé in Google ?
Few lawyers can catch these clients because they have websites. Are you intereseted having one ?

This is my script but When i called her, lol :

Me : Hello, is this xxxx
H : Yes, what is the subject ?
( I was like euuuuh) I am an internet marketing consultant and i provide websites to lawyers Are you interested ?

She said no politely, lol !
This was my first cold call. What do you think of the script and can you help me to improve it (I am about to add a demo site option in the script )

Close the forum and keep doing it until you hit 100.

Then come back on and start asking us questions.

Really. Don't waste anymore time. Just call the next one. Once they end up rejecting you, hang up, quickly dial the next number, and keep grinding through it.

When I used to do cold calling, it is 9am -4pm. But I do not even touch cold calling anymore, I would recommend you to stick to blogging solo ads to save you the time, but good luck with it.

Rearden is right... Pick up the phone and call the next business... If the same thing keeps happening then it is time to switch up your script...

Don't start tweaking until you've plugged in at least 1000 completed phone calls.

Your script needs tweaking, but you need to call and get used to talking or any tweaking done won't help you.

Keep calling, then report back like everyone else said

You can try to have few scripts/scenarios. Think about all the questions and objections that they might have, and answer them. You can have them written somewhere. So you will never be stucked for words or thinking about what to say on the spot.

dont leave it so cut and dry, ask open ended questions about their business and make some suggestions along with adding in some stats and dont leave the call without getting an email address at least, cold calling is a pain and in general ineffective but at least if you can get contact details you can start a process with them

Your script will need a lot of work. There are a lot of grammatical errors. There are some great ebooks on how to keep your cold calling success rate above normal. I myself started cold calling for my Craigslist Posting service and I am doing pretty good with it.

Congrats, on taking action. This my second day of cold calling and let me tell you the first ten calls, I probably sound like I have a speech impediment because I'm so nervous.

1st call of the day was very short with me. "Take me off your list." That's the one I was stumbling all over my words.

Then my 5th call said he loved the way I introduced myself. That in itself made me keep going. Still nervous but glad to see someone could be so nice to a cold call.

I lost my motivation about an hour later but I'm increasing my dials day by day.

Listen to Rearden. There is power in making at least 100 calls, before you think about changing anything. The repetition of calling will redirect your mind to start saying things that work.

The most important thing is to become Fearless. A thousand calls will give you that. And then the tips you read here will have far more effect, and you'll know how to implement them. Stop reading this, and make another call.

Your script will clean itself up through use. After 1,000 calls, tell us what you say. You'll be a different person. Good luck.

The missing ingredient here is having some faith.

John's mentioned it in prior threads, but it's in the action that you learn.

You have to have faith in that process.

Because you are going to be afraid. You are not going to want to do it. You'll want to quit. You'll think you'll never get better.

But the only way get past that is to drive straight through it.

Congratulations on taking action and doing cold calling! Good for you. I hope you continue and are over the top successful. I agree that making more calls will help you perfect your script. But, I think asking for help is also a good sign. You are ready to learn. I would never ask if it is a bad time to call--gives them the opeing to say yes and hang up. But, I would make sure I give them the stats and like the way you did it. Good luck!

When I read the title of the post the first thing that popped into my brain was:

I just got my first piece of a** today (but it was by hand).

That naturally led me to read the post because I instinctively knew my thought had to be off base. No offense to the OP but wowee zowee, pay attention to Rearden's advice before you post about cold calling (IMHO).

On the other hand, congratulations on taking action. That is always the first step. For your next 99 calls try this:

I offer something no one else in the web design business offers. Free websites. Would you like one?

Of course you won't work for free but you'll give them a free website. You can get them from dropbox so you won't be out any money. Conversion to a professional website should be a snap. This also builds up your confidence to pick up the phone to make one more dial which like the other posters have said is what you need to do.

I"m glad I read the post and didn't just run with my first thought.

A thousand calls per week should take 3 hours per day.

So you work 15 hours lets say and land two sales... Lets say you charge $1500 on the front end and your outsourcing cost is $500 per sale, and you spend 3 hours per week working with the ousourcers realistically.

You have 18 hours and you profit 2 grand. Not a bad job. Plus you will probably make some residual. Here's the kicker...Next week you will probably accomplish the same thing in less than TEN hours, because you will have your cold sales PLUS call backs in the pipeline...

The better you get, you could accomplish this in a ten to twelve hour work week repeatedly.
