Anyone Used LinkedIn PPC Advertising?

I see that LinkedIn now provides PPC Advertising for targeting selected business categories. I was thinking of giving it a shot but was wondering if any warrior's have tried it and what kind of results you got?

Lowest ROI out of any PPC I have tried except 7search. They may have refined it a bit since I tried it, but it is the most primitive and least targeted way to get traffic. It doesn't convert very well and is expensive. Maybe they changed it, but $2/click with no chance of getting it lower made it unattractive to me.

Ditto. Same response here. I used it pretty recently and got a very bad response.

I tried them. You'd think it'd be effective on some level, but nope. I got better results with Facebook PPC.

I second what NameLess said. FB PPC is much more effective an easier to figure out.

Have a friend who spent high four figures GBP on Linkedin and we were both shocked by the poor results. Would love to hear of someone that consistently spends on Linkedin because it produces a great ROI.

      Yep...terrible results so far.

I only tried this because they gave me a $50 credit. I'm currently running different offers with several ad variations. My control panel shows over 5000 page views so far and ZERO clicks.

I keep changing my copy to make more and more appealing offers for offline services and still nothing.

I'll report back if I get any results...I'm a very optimistic dude...

      but don't hold your breath

I have and still use LinkedIn ads to generate qualified leads.

I don't use the PPC option, I use the "Pay By Impressions" option. Right now my ads average $1.36 PPC when I use the CPM.

When I set up my ads I make them very targeted. I select specific areas and specific "Titles" for the target audience.

The more targeted you are, the better value you will get for your ad.

How's your return and what's you LTV if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking at other traffic sources right now to see what's working where. I've used linked in but didn't have any good results from it.

I would normally say BS, especially when there is the convenient link in the sig promoting a linkedin course, but I will refrain.... I do wish he would show us a screen shot because I have NEVER, EVER, seen anyone, EVER, on linkedin getting 1 click per 2k impressions. Most people aren't even getting it per 10k impressions. If he is, then that's great... but almost always you pay more when it based on impressions than you do on clicks.

Exactly. That's why I was trying to politely ask for details. I don't buy it. My strongest skill set it PPC and I have yet to get linkedin to really do much of anything but waste money. Not saying it can't be done. I just haven't seen anyone do it yet. I'm giving 7 search another shot right now. I have seen it work but only for cpa stuff.

Here is a screenshot of 5 ads I've been running for the past 30 days. Ignore the "Leads" column...that is something I was testing, but turned off.

And, wouldn't you hope I created a course on a topic I knew a lot about

Nice... would love to see your actual ads but I understand if you don't want to show that.

Even with paying per impressions, it is still higher than I'd like. I like being able to drive the cost well below $1/click. You must have a really targeted niche down for that, nice job.

Those 5 ads are for a partnership/affiliate program I'm a part of. The total service costs about 1K a month and I get 10% of each sale. The sale will sign a minimum 6-month contract so the Life-Time-Value is about 600/sale.

I think that's what you were asking. If not, please let me know.

That's what I was asking. Thanks for putting that up there. Also, the screenshot. The reason I was saying it's not working for most is because if you look at your numbers you'll see that you have a good LTV. Granted most offline stuff can have a good LTV like that. But, you are paying $420 for those 2 leads. It turned into $1200 profit for you. That's good for you if those 2 leads bought. If just 1 buys then it cuts deep into your commission.

It depends on the service you offer though and the LTV you have. My point with linked in PPC is that it's just a little higher priced than I'm interested in. Running traffic with that low of a CTR and conversion rate isn't very good compared to most other PPC outlets. Which is surprising being that linked in is filled with business people.

I've used it and personally had terrible results. However, it may work for other niches so why not give it a try. The issue is the targeted audience they provide in some cases is extremely small. I also suggest not paying by impression which is something they offer, but instead only pay by click.

Like I said in the post with the screenshot, ignore the leads column. That leads column was a test where at the top of the page you send them to they can click something like "I want to be contacted" and you can contact them via LinkedIn. (learn more here - Advertising and Marketing Solutions | LinkedIn)

I did not like that option, so I removed it...instead they fill out the usual squeeze page form.

I have received many more than 2 leads from the $420.

I looked at LinkedIn's PPC but passed on $2 a click without any way to test it out first. Maybe if they offer coupon codes later.

If you are trying to sell straight off the page then Linkedin may not be for you. On the other hand if you have a business to business product or service and you are trying to build a mailing list, then it could be worth a shot.

It is also good for branding costing about $3 per 1000 impressions.

The big thing is Linkedin's favour is the location-gender-occuption-company targeting. For example, you could have a campaign that calls out to people who work for specific companies or in specific industries.

eg. Car rental deals for female coal mine employees in Rockhampton.

Linkedin is not for everyone but it does work for me.

I must agree with the Warrior's assessment of LinkedIn PPC. 2nd lowest ROI for me only topped by Facebook Ads. Nameforless - thanks for the 'heads up' on 7search.
