Have you achieved your goals for 2012? What have you in store for 2013?

Hey all, at the beginning of each year we see threads hailing that 20xx will be the year where this and that is gonna happen.

Have you achieved what you set out to do?

If yes, what kept you going?

If no, Y not?

    Goals need to be realistic.

I could say I want to make $1,000,000 in 2013 and while I might do it that isn't a realistic goal for me or most of us here.

I think the problem a lot of time is people put up big dreams vs. realistic goals. Then it all falls apart when they see it is not likely, maybe not even possible.

Goals should be a way you track yourself.
They should be two (or even three levels).
    You should have the following.
    1. Minimum Goal: You will make this and you are 100% sure (this is the one some people leave out)
    2. Realistic Goal: Say you made $50 or $75k in 2012. $100k would be a realistic goal. It would still take work but you you know it is possible.
    3. Stretch Goal: This is a goal that you would like to hit. It is possible but unlikely. Using the same numbers $150k or $200k would be a good stretch goal. In my mind a good way to think about a yearly stretch goal is that it is a realistic goal for the the next year. ex: 2012: $75k; 2013: $100k/$150k; 2014: $150k/$200k

By having multiple goals like this you create a mentality of success but always reaching for more. Failure isn't an option nor is it even realistically possible.

As for myself one of my big goals was to finally have my position at work be full time marketing and I achived that goal mid-year. As for 2013 I am still considering what I want. Doing a lot of soul searching currently so do not have a big yearly goal for 2013 yet.

1: I did not achieve my 2012 goals.

2: I did do financially well ("Gross" wise) in 2012 though and achieved SOME goals...

3: I had a divorce and a ton of personal storms that came with it, and court battles... I let them get in the way and distract me from my business goals in 2012.

4: My goal for 2013 is to create the most monstrous offline organization the Warrior forum has ever witnessed.

      I no longer set goals.

I have a schedule. I know what I want to accomplish month to month. And I just set us a schedule to accomplish it.

If I get a little behind, I just do a little more. If I get a little ahead, I try to keep the lead...because stuff happens.

I'm with Aaron on setting realistic goals. When I was selling life insurance with New York Life, the manager had us write our month's goals on the dry erase board.
Most posted huge multiples of what they did the last month. I added 25% to my last month's production. My production was the highest (at the time) in the room. My goal was the lowest. The manager asked "Why such an easy to hit target , Claude?"

I said "These are fantasies (pointing to the other goals posted). I'll really hit my goal". That was a few decades ago.

My last name, Whitacre made me the last one to post on these boards, or the story would be different. And of course, none of the other agents liked it at all. But I never understood why people made fantasy goals that were nothing more than wishful thinking. In other words "My goal is to make a million dollars (when the most ever made was $15,000 a year) by doing no additional work...except hoping and praying".

No idea why I'm such a hard@@S on this. But I am.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I agree with Claude and Aaron. I think it's better to state goals in terms of process than in money or other things. If you have absolute control over the process such as, I will exercise on the bike for 30 minutes 4 times per week or I will do X amount of prospecting calls per day, the results which you want will follow naturally. You'll get some result and then you'll fine tune the process to achieve the result more predictably. The goal has to be realistic and a bit out of your comfort zone.

I did not meet my goals.
But, I am okay with it.
I am a religious person, so I believe God has a plan for me.
No need to be foolish and create my own anymore.

2013 is going to be an interesting year.
I will now be providing B2C services, in addition to my B2B consulting.
As well as partnering with my brother-in-law to help him launch a totally seperate business. Plus, possibly building 2 more businesses. Related to my brother-in-laws business. As well as adding another division to my brother-in-laws company.

Each part is a six figure business. I also enjoy the start-up process.
Building a business from the ground up.
    $0 - $XXX,XXX... then selling!
And starting all over. Marketing is my passion.
I will get to enjoy it all through 2013!

I know what needs to be done, just have to figure out how....
I will probably just go with the flow...

    vndnbrgi,

You remind me of my brother Michaels business, booking his own sales training seminars. He prospects about 1 day per week and books about 2 seminars per month averaging between 6 to 10 grand per seven hour seminar. He HAS made up to 36 grand in a seminar.

All his business needs is an appointment setter. That would turn a key for him to scale up 4 times in one single move...

Just a random thought, had to write it down.

Honestly, I think one decent appointment setter could scale him up to a half million in 2013 easily.

    @John

If your brother finds an appt setter like that, and that appt setter has a sibling....
Let me know. I will swoop them up and compensate you for them!

Business goals yes, I had one, stop relying on Google to provide all of my income, I now have 3 streams of income that don't rely on them for a single penny and each one brings in enough for me to live comfortably from. I also still have 2 income streams that rely heavily on them but they could be ripped from under me at any minute through no fault of my own.

I got an office, have some great staff and a steady stream of incoming projects. I am also pretty confident my business could survive if every single employee left and i was alone because i have improved my skills in all the necessary areas required. I by far exceeded my financial goals.

Personal goals, I met some and not others, I have a new house, I don't work on Fridays but I failed my driving test and fell a little short of my fitness and health goals.

Leading scorer in my five a side league as well as players player of the year.

    Banged a minor celebrity.

I am still the greatest Madden player in all of England.

All in all pretty happy with 2012 so far.

Not doing so hot -- Nearly doubled my profits from 2011 to 2012, then got suckered into a joint venture on this forum that turned out to be a scam and lost a lot.

Now I'm getting back on the horse, and really trying to get a strong momentum going into 2013.
