A Homeless Man Inspired Me Today

Today as I was driving back to my office I saw this homeless man standing on the corner. Now I've been passing by this man for months and he rarely misses a day. But today was different; you see it was hailing outside when I past him today and that got my attention. I thought to myself, why would this man still be panhandling in this weather?! The answer is because he HAS to.

So how did this inspire me?

Because when that thought went through my head the next thing I thought of was my own life and how this reflects my drive in business. Some of you know that just a few weeks ago I was asking for help on gathering clients and how to close them on my offer. I later went on to quickly close my first few deals that are now generating a nice weekly income. Over the past week I have felt myself slip into a comfort zone by not feeling the need to call more businesses because I've already generated some good income.

After seeing this man pushing himself even in extreme weather I was disgusted with myself. How could I so quickly lose the drive that got me those first clients, how could I feel like I've accomplished so much when really I've only started. So today is the day I jump back on my horse and charge after that long term goal. If a man can stand on the corner every day in the freezing cold weather and ask for pennies, then surly I can sit in the comfort of my office and make those phone calls every day!

I know this is not marketing advice but I hope someone can find it as motivating as I have.

    I don't know what this is doing in offline marketing discussion and not mind warriors, but it was a very powerful message and it actually helped pique my inspirational queue while I was listlessly staring at my computer and coming off of red bull. Thank you very much for this, I'm going to think about that man whenever I feel like giving up.

    There is a big different between wanting to do something and needing to do something.

    When I hear someone struggling in there business I always tell use this example. Let's say there is a plumber who is struggling because of the economy (the easiest excuse to make). My advice to that plumber is to make a flyer and go door to door to every house in his town or city. That is possible to do, right? It's not easy and it might be uncomfortable, but it IS possible. I can guarantee if he did that he would get all kinds of new business? And if he did a good job do you think he would get referrals?

    Make something a NEED and you'll find a way to get it done!

    It looks like you were stuck in your comfort zone.
    Get out of your comfort zone, don't become complacent, set new goals to reach a higher level and when you've reached that level...wash rinse and repeat (as they say in the states)

    This is a good thread. I thought it was going to be one of those homeless sign threads again but you took this is a little differently.

    Not to mention, this is a great time for me to be reading this. We got hit by a hurricane over a week ago, and one of the websites I do work for is a waterproofing biz. So ironically enough, I just had my first 5 figure month... in less than 10 days. I put some money in the bank 2 days ago and told myself "its time to take a break". This is day 2, and I'm already feeling guilty.

    I know how easily a 2 day break can turn into a 3 day break. So this was a nice kick in the ass to read. Some people out there are begging for change. And just because theres money around now, doesn't mean it will always be like this. Although I think for the next couple of months contractors in NJ will be making a killing. I was speaking to one sales guy a couple days ago who already sold $250,000 of work in 10 days! Have never heard of such a thing in my life. But on the other side, you have people who lost thier homes, and have no place to go. Its a REALLY weird situation to see going on.
