      Thanks Ewen for your ad!!

I'm wondering if you have a website template that this ad is describing? Because if I end up taking clients from this ad, I would like to give them exactly what they signed up for instead of just an "ad gimmick".

Thank you for the great content you're giving to the WF forum!!

        Not from a template.

Just from the research on a massive library on website conversion
        at marketingexperiments.com

Those who don't study and act on the research for their clients
        do a dis-service for them.

Have you tried actually searching for them? It took me about 30 seconds to find them using Google. He gave the words to search for in his posts.

I'd post the link, but the thread specifically asks people not to post the ads. And I take that to mean links to the ads as well.

Hi Marvin, I actually tried searching a few times with his quoted lines, but I didn't find it. So I'm not sure if the ad has expired because that post was in July of 2012?

Are you still finding it now? What words were you searching for? Thanks!

You can follow my ads as an example, but trust me when I say they're not the best to learn from. Especially considering that I am not a copywriter. Just a person who stalks copywriters.

What you need more than anything, is not my ads. You need a swipe file of the best material you can possibly find. I think its my swipe file that has given me leverage over most other people posting on CL. And this will sound stupid, but I am a lefty. Which means I am severely right brain dominant. If you read about right brain dominant people, they suck at things like accounting and math... but are usually very good at reading and guiding emotions (you don't have to be lefty to do this, but you may need to train yourself more in right brain thinking). Right brain dominant people are also very hard to please, as they are bilateral thinkers, and never secure in their own thoughts. Always seeing things simultaneously from 2 polar opposite sides, and using intuition to bridge things together.

Everytime I look back at my older ads, I always have major criticisms to voice about them. So this has provoked a neverending cycle of improvement for me.

Some of my past ads were trying to sell people in the ads. This is a lead generation nightmare. When people were calling, they were OVERqualified. It made jobs very easy to sell, but I didn't realize at the time how many leads I was sacrificing by doing this.

So I wound up testing ads from polar opposite sides of the spectrum. Highly emotional ads, that overqualified people, vs less emotional ads like the one below. Its more of a vanity based ad, than something that tries to provoke/resolve fear.

Its a very simple ad. Lacks a lot of emotion and punch. Its just out there to get vanity seekers to raise their hand. And this ad had an NLP anchor on the bottom right. Its there to signify social proof, and is very subtle. I had to contact a judge just to see if it would be legal, and he said it was as long as I didn't infringe on any trademarks. Its manipulative stuff to do, but when you really think about it, there is some pretty crazy stuff that can be done with NLP anchors.

BTW I call them NLP anchors but all they really do is anchor credibility/social proof. There is actually a second anchor in the ad, that noone will notice. And no its not the "A" all the way up top, thats just our logo. You would have to know what our real office looks like to notice that we're using a stock office 100xs better looking than our real office.

Then I have my more melodramatic text based ads like this one (I have so many different combinations but not enough time to show them all =])

Qualified Remodeling Contractors vs Credible Ones - A BIG DIFFERENCE

Maybe you're looking to have work done on your home. It could be a bathroom, a basement or a kitchen. . . its not that important.

What IS important, right now.. are your standards for hiring a remodeling company.

If I went on about all the negative things I see in the remodeling industry as a business owner, you might think I was a negative person.

If I told you all these problems could be solved by 1 simple clarification, then you might find this post useful.

Let me define 2 words for you:

*Qualified - having complied with the minimum requirements to perform a task.

*Credible - offering reasonable grounds to be effective and successful.

This is VERY important, so please listen carefully.
When you look for a "qualified" contractor, you are looking for a person who possesses the BARE MINIMUM to perform the job.

    What is the bare minimum?

    License
    Insurance

For most people, these 2 criteria are usually enough.

But look at things this way.

A police officer who just got graduated the academy 3 days ago. . . is "qualified" to protect society.
A teenager who got their license 2 weeks ago is "qualified" to drive a car.

A soldier who just passed boot camp . . .

A doctor who just graduated medical school. . .

Are you seeing the point yet?

Would you trust these people with your life?

Would you trust a "qualified" remodeling contractor with your home?

Now lets define what a CREDIBLE contractor might be -

At bare minimum they should be licensed, insured and BBB acrredited. A credible contractor will ALWAYS be a qualified contractor, but a qualified contractor is not always a credible one.

You must never forget that distinction.

Credible is someone who actively adheres to the rules and guidelines set forth by the EPA.

They must abide by "lead-safe" practices.

Lead is a toxin, its in many old homes (pre-1978 to be specific).

This is why work areas are contained.
This is why dust needs to be minimized.
This is why workers must clean up every time a mess is made.

It poses health hazards AND fire hazards (dust is very flammable). Contractors are the only people in the world who can truly prevent lead exposure.

They should adhere to guidelines of Energy Star and strive to reduce their carbon footprint.

They should always use negative air machines when required.
They should always pull permits when permits are required.

Does this sound more CREDIBLE to you?

How about being in business since 1992?
Or a team with 65 combined years of residential and commercial remodeling experience?

This doesn't make us expensive. . . but it definitely doesn't make us the cheapest either.

Then I tried doing videos too. I'd create thumbnails and link them in my CL ad, to drive people to youtube to qualify, then to our phone or website.

I tried personal videos, professional videos, emotional videos, nonemotional, I've tried lots of combinations.

What works best is you need to strike a balance. And testing should never end imo. However, my testing has convinced me that video works the best with an incredible headline. Then you keep the ad informative, while using credible information to provoke fear/action (without being obvious about the fear part).

I'll show you a brief process I use for mold. First, I use a thesaurus along with good swipe file to help me. Sometimes I'll go to the WSO forum and steal headlines that got thousands of views, then rewrite them for my own niche.

Here is one of my msword resources for my mold copy.

    HEADLINES:

Escape The Curse Of A Home Riddled In Black Mold.. (stole concept from Ewen)
Menacing Mold Statistics Mention 1300% Increase In NJ Homes.
Is Belligerent Black Mold Haunting Your Happy Home For Halloween?
1 on 1 - Your Home VS Black Mold à Who Will Win? (stole concept from WSO section)
Live Mold Ravaging At Your Restful Residence ---> END The Madness NOW!
Is Barbaric Black Mold Turning Your Healthy Home Into A Battlefield?
Malicous Mold Creating Chaos In Your Happy Home -----> Who Will Win?
Is Destructive Mold Defacing Your Happy Home? Stop The Sinister Cycle!
Has Destructive Black Mold Disrupted Your Peaceful Life? WE CAN HELP!
Sick of Sinister Black Mold Harassing Your Healthy Home? ----> STOP The Cycle!
Escape The Feverish Grip Of Mold Knawing At Your Happy Home..

    >>> Keep in mind this is one of my brain storming documents. Like some of the headlines just read wierd, and thats ok. For me its about getting the words out (as I'm looking over my swipe), and keeping the flow going. If a headline is weird, I still try to finish it fast and move onto the next. Then I can go back and fix things later.

Test AD: (random headline grabbed from above)

Its aggressive, its abhorrent, its obnoxious... its mold.

This musty & messy living creature, is well known by the medical industry to cause a whole host of immuno suppressive reactions.

Symptoms like dry eyes, burning eyes, watery eyes, runny nose, allergies, asthma,
we'd rather not get into all of them. What you need to do when you have mold, is find out what type of strain is growing inside your house, and the level of spores that have built up over time.

The fact is, many people don't know a thing about mold. They have no idea that the longer mold stays in your home, the more cumulative the effect is on your health. This is because, mold does NOT just grow in your home. The spores are well known to build up in your lungs over time.

Watch our youtube video for more information on mold:

    http://www.youtube.com/myvideostillneedwork

100% of all forms of mold have the potential to cause some health effects, as reported by EPA.gov. Since we abide by all rules of the EPA, if spores are above a certain level, we will recommend removal.

100% of all forms of mold have the potential to cause some health effects, as reported by EPA.gov. Since we abide by all rules of the EPA, if spores are above a certain level, we will recommend removal.

Thats my process for creating ads. I take out my swipe file (which is in too many different places to upload, maybe another day), I use thesaurus.com, then I get to work.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

WOW Red this is AWESOME!!! Thank you for walking us through your process of creating these ads adn even giving us the SAMPLES and swipe files you use!!

The headlines to modify is definitely a good idea! So which categories do you find that your ads get the most response? And on average on many ads do you need to put up to get 5-10 good leads and eventually 2-3 sales?

Seems like this has to do with COPYWRITING than anything else!!!

Thanks much for sharing your process, much appreciated!

I'm curious if "knawing" was an intentional misspelling?

      Thanks!
