How do you get publicity for a book that you were not the author of?

Guys and gals, any creative ways to promote a book that you are not the author of and has just acquired the rights to sell?

Are radio interviews, tv coverage possible since you are not theoretically speaking the expert so to speak?

Or does is it only possible to go to a publicity firm to try to get them to get the media to cover the book's release?

Thanks!

My response is going to be pretty nebulous because I don't have exact links to send you to. I would recommend, though, checking out hardtofindseminars.com. There are a series of interviews there from a guy named Ben Gay who acquired the rights to sell The Closers and went on to sell tens of millions of dollars worth of product. There are several hours of interviews on the site with Ben Gay, not all of them about the book, but they are a great listen.

Look how Think and Grow Rich is sold long after the author's death.

You are the author's representative! The source of where they can get this knowledge.

    MAKE yourself the expert.

Go do a couple of talks at local colleges and group meetings. Tie a current topic into your material. See if you can film them. This will build your credibility.

I'd look for ways to go viral. Utilizing FB, Twitter, Linkedin groups and other
      social networks.

Do what Jason said, make yourself an authority/specialist

Offer it at a different price.

Say you knew how good the information was and wanted to make sure
more people had an opportunity to get it.

So you went on a mission to figure out how.
You came down to two choices.
Re-write everything with the same power, without plagarising.
Which would have been difficult and costly, thus not making it affordable.
Or, do everything in your power to acquire the rights.

    Good copywriting tells a story.
    So, go tell a story.

What about creating a kindle version?

Tried promoting it on Amazon, Lulu or createspace?

    What about online press releases?

Clickbank ? (if you have a digital version)

Via publishing groups in Linkedin as well, using this URL (you'll need to right click it, copy it and personalise it in your browser after you've joined say 30-50 relevant groups of your target audiene)

    http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle...deo-or-article

    Your own affiliate programme?

Asking people to take your solo ad in their newsletters and ezines or giving it a positive review in their newsletter and giving them a %?

Food for thought. Hope it helps.

Is it in the MMO niche?
Because, it's different from marketing a craft book, for instance.

If you have the rights to the book, and the title or author are known, I would write a long foreward to it and Title it "Whatever the title is..Presented by Whatever your name is".

If you just have copies of the book to sell, recording interviews (pay someone to interview you) and use that as a lead generation magnet.

You really should tell us more. The subject, what you really own, copies of books, reprint rights, etc.

Does the title or author's name have value?

You could always rewrite the book in your own wiords, and sell it as your own. Have you ever marketed a book before?

I should tell you, selling a book is usually only profitable if the book acts as a lead generation tool to sell other services, or coaching.
