Client gave me his CC Number's

He didn't want me to send him a paypal invoice because "He doesn't do computer stuff", so he just gave me his CC info instead. What's the best way to run it? Just send an invoice to my email and pay it? that's the only option i'm aware of?

If you want to use paypal then you could use the PayPal Here app and manually enter the numbers.

If you're using something like freshbooks, just open up the invoice in your dashboard, and you can enter the payment on it yourself.

Just a friendly heads up before you go paying your bills with his info. Document when and where he gave it to you. Document the time and date you pay your invoice and make sure to save it.
I have had past clients try and pull some devious stuff so its best to tread lightly. Especially when people just give out credit card info

I wouldn't even touch it. My opinion - If you have a business paypal, just tell him you cannot input it yourself, but that he can do it without signing up, he just needs to follow the link and pay it.

Too much can go wrong here and it's not worth it.

Im surprised that you think this. I have had the exact opposite experience....of course I guess you never miss the ones that got away... but alot get away, probably half of them, when you ask the customer to manually do anything themselves beyond the phone call. Closing is too sensitive to leave to chance. Get it while you are there and the iron is hot.

I have taken alot of credit cards over the phone, and I wouldnt run from it, I would find a way to process it, get the job done and put myself in business...but in the future I would take check by phone, because credit cards do have charge back risks....not enough to make me turn down business though.

I would miss half my sales if pay pal was my only payment option...

Sounds to me like the OP is doing it the ole fashion shoe string way thats classic.... Go get the business, then try and figure out what it is going to take to fulfill....Much better than, "Go set up a business for six months, even though you dont know how to get people to give you money..." lol

Most people have everything but the talent to get the money. The OP has half the battle knocked out- the half most struggle with despite having everything else...

      Guess what?

Everything else can be bought and paid for.

I have personally had several clients do this to me as well!! My advice is the same as Mwind076. Once I was firm with these clients they went and paid me through Paypal, even though they all said they were not into the computer thing.

Selling RVs I ran credit cards over the phone all the time. But in princible I agree with Mwind. They don't need a paypal account to pay so offer that first.

Manually entering cards is easier when you have your own merchant account and terminal but as pointed out there are ways around it with other payment processors.

I would recommend before doing anything with them, send him a credit card authorization form. Just for good measure.

When I used to process credit cards, I would sometimes run it over the phone, no problem, but always had them agree to my terms of service. Others who set off a red flag in my mind, I sent them a CC authorization form.

    Folks stop being ridiculous.

It's perfectly FINE to process a CC# a customer gave you, you should have a merchant account to process it. I do it all the time and have no issues. BTW - big companies IE; Sony, Best Buy etc all do it as well. I wonder how some of you actually make any money..

Nobody is saying not to... Learn to read. I wonder how you make money if you aren't capable of reading a few paragraphs here and there.

One... to process someone elses CC on paypal that is a different account than your is technically illegal.

Two... Nobody says not to process credit cards, just to make sure he has proper authorization.

Three... Best buy, sony, etc. require signatures, pin, or other verification.

We make smart money. There is zero reason for him to do this unless he plans to set it up correctly and do it all the time. It is MUCH more likely that he could get into some type of legal trouble if he processes it himself, than if he just has the customer follow a simple link and do it. He is worry free at that point.

Unless he knows this customer, I still suggest he protects himself. CYA.

Square is easiest in my experience. I did have to call them up to raise the limit of how much money can be charged at one time before I processed, but it was painless. I believe on default the amount you can have before its withdrawn or sent to your account is $1,000.
