Ya wanna make a milyun in 2013?

I'm sorry fellow WFers....what I'm about to reveal is NOT for you who have NO interest in "Face-To-Face" sales!

However....I'm posting this to "give you "KeyBoarders" an inkling as to how US "Inklers" get their ideas. So...bear with me as I relate 2 projects I "think" will put a Milyun in my coffers in 2013.

1) A few yrs ago, one of my sons gave me a "MOUSE-PAD" with a Photo of my NEW GRAND BABY! I LOVE it and have continued to use it for the last 10 yrs. Well, a few days ago I noticed the Mouse Pad getting somewhat shabby around the edges...so....I thought, "Hey! I should look into getting a New Mouse Pad. I called me son and told him to send me a NEW Mouse Pad with my TWO Grand-Daughters photos on it.

That's when I got my HOT FLASH! Hey! A "Photo" on a Mouse Pad? Instead of a Photo of my "BeeYouTeeFull"" grand-daughters on a Mouse Pad....why couldn't there be a Photo of a House (that was sold by a RE Agent)....ON the Mouse Pad (along with a Photo of the RE Agent who sold the house) and...offered as a GIFT to the folks who bought the house?

THIS Mouse Pad would be a "Well-Appreiated" GIFT....AND....a "Reminder" of WHO sold them the house!!!!!!

Nowadays....the "average" RE Agent spends about $50 for a "House-Warming" GIFT (House Plant, Bottle of Wine, etc) BUT....a Gift with a PHOTO of their New Home, on a Mouse-Pad....WOW....not only would that be GREATLY APPRECIATED....it would be USED!

And....everytime the Home-Buyer sat down to their Puter, they'd not only see a Picture of their House AND....a picture of the Agent who sold it to them. Resulting in DAILY CONTACT with their RE Agent!

You Kiddin' ME! THIS would result in BOO-Coo Exposure AND....Referral Value!

OK...let's step this UP a few. What about "New Car Buyers"?

2) Some years ago I made "FOTO CALENDARS FOR CAR DEALERS". The dealership would have someone take a Photo of the Car Buyers WHEN THEY WERE DELIVERING THE CAR. The dealer would send me the "Roll of 35 mm Film" every Monday morn and I'd develop the film and enlarge the photos to 5 x 7 and place the photos on a 11x17 piece of card-stock.

I'd then laminate the sheet and staple a Calendar Pad to it and bring it back to the dealership for them to GIVE to their Car Buyers as a MUCH-APPRECIATED GIFT.

This "Gift" would be received and hung in the home or office of their Car Buyers and....EVERYONE who came into the Car Buyers office or home... woudl see the Calendar AND....the Photo of the Car Buyer standing next to their Purchase (an "EGO" thing)....AND....at the Top of this WALL Calendar would be the LOGO and Info of the DEALER who sold the car!

WHALA! A terrific "REFERRAL TOOL" for the Dealer!

Well....fast forward to 2012. I UP-Dated my "Foto-Cal" Car Buyer Calendars to a "FRIDGE MAGNET"; One-Sheet that has;
Dealer Logo and contact info at top
Photo of Car Buyer
2 year Calendar (boxes of Months, 6 across and 4 down)

Thus....the past 2 days, I showed BOTH of these programs to 2 Realtors and 2 Car Dealers and....they ALL WENT GAGA when they saw my Demos.

With the result being;

I BELIEVE I can sell BOTH....the Mouse-Pads and Fridge Magnets....to Realtors AND Car Dealers for a NICE chunk o change AND....

Option: Provide these 2 items at NO CHARGE to Realtors and Car Dealers! (Would that get accepted by Realtors and Car Dealers? A FREE product that could help them get Referrals and....at NOT Charge?)

So....you're asking HOW can I provide FREE "Personalised Mouse-Pads and Fridge Magnets to these 2 "BIG-MONEY" Niche Markets?

Well....I know of many businesses that would LOVE to have an Ad on a Mouse Pad or Fridge Magnet of .....New Home Buyers or New Car Buyers!

So....I'd sell ADS on these items for GOOD money and provide them for Freebies to Realtors and Car Dealers!!!!!

How many Car Dealers or Realtors would turn down a FREE program that could ....KEEP their names in front of their customers and....bring them REFERRALS....for the next 2 yrs?

You Kiddin' me?

This is awesome! IMHO! So....if a Realtor or Car Dealer turns me down for what I'm charging....and as I'm "packing out the door and turn around and say, "WHAT IF THIS WAS FREE....TO YOUR?"

Do ya think a few would take me up on a NO-Cost deal that could bring them Referrals for the next few yrs?

Yes indeedy!

So....again, this is NOT for the majority of folks reading this here on the WF. I posted this as an Example of how US "Belly-To-Belly" sales people think get our product ideas....that MAYBE....a few of you could understand how "WE" come up with our "products"!

Don Alm...thanks for reading

P.S. the 2 Car Dealers and 2 Realtor I showed these to went GA-GA.

So....with thousands of Car Dealers and Realtors in the country I feel SURE I can get 50 or 60 sending me a few thousand a month.

Average Car Dealer sales = 80 units/mo $50 per unit (Car or Truck) - $4,000 per mo per Dealer. Hey! I can live on $80,000 a Month from just 20 Car Dealers. And....what comes in from Realtors is "Extra"

Seriously, does anybody really still use a mouse pad?????
        Do they even sell them???

If your mouse has a roller ball in it, then you are either cheap or stuck in the 90's.

I got an idea Don, why not put pictures on the middle of a 45 record. Yeah!
Maybe all those crazy cats would dig that as they're spinning their favorite platters
        on their record player.

Plastic shelf liners, custom printed with the Realtor's name appearing every 9.5 inches, inter-twined with pictures of the property, 3 rolls laying on the counter waiting for the proud home owner to install, that would do it. Yep, who wouldn't want to have those?

Custom-printed toilet paper alternating ads from car dealers and other businesses catering to new home owners. Just tear off the ad before use and bring in your coupons, that would do it.

    Phew! Tough Crowd!

My interpretation of the OP, and many of Dons threads, is the point of getting out from behind the keyboard and (gasp!) talking to people.

I think its rather rude just to bash him when these are viable, albeit slightly dated,
    promotional ideas for businesses.
I appreciate his old school ideas, and I'd bet many of his prospects do as well.
After all, not every Mom and Pop needs a website for their clientele, and hold-in-your-hand,put-it-on-the-wall promotional items has been working for a long time.

"Make a Millyun" to "old-fashioned" me with the "old-fashioned Promo Ideas" means, "It's a GREAT Idea!"

      If photos of new car buyers placed on a Mouse Pad are so "Old-Fashioned", why are a few hundred (or even a thousand) Car Dealers (including one Group of 152 New Car Dealers;
      1) Taking TIME to snap a Photo of their New Car Buyers...at Time of Delivery?
      and...
      2) WHY are these New Car Dealers PAYING to have them made AND Given to their customers....as a GIFT?

      Are they "Old-Fashioned" too?

See photo below of a Mouse Pad that one "Old-Fashioned" New Car Dealer is provding to his customers.

Must be some kinda "Nut"...wasting money like that!

      I'm ADDING TO this by placing Ads of LOCAL Biznesses around the photo. Anyone buying a New Car these days have PROVEN they;
      1) Have Money
      and...
      2) Are Willing to SPEND IT!

Thus....these new car buyers probably have money to spend on OTHER THINGS!....and....OTHER biz might be SOLD on buying an AD on these "Old-Fashioned" pieces of material.....would ya think?

Don Alm...."Beam Me Up Scotty"....too much "Modern-Thinking" here!

QUOTE...."The problem is people could put their efforts towards something else that will most likely produce better results. To each their own though, if you can get that to work great but I don't see much happening out of it."

Ya..."Sir" Nathan...in ALL your "WiseNess & Wisdom"....you are Right ON as to a Forum that caters to NON-Personal Contact members.

I'm from the "old-school" where.....I take an Idea and RUN WITH IT!

I see a Company called "Cal-Pro" selling a program to a "Niche" of "New Car Dealers"....and I wonder, "Hey! There are 24,000 New Car Dealers in the country....ONE Co CAN'T cover them ALL!

So....I made up MY OWN Samples of what I WANT TO SELL TO CAR DEALERS....and I GO OUT AND contact them!

Most people would look at Cal-Pro's Very Professional program and product and say, "Hey! Dat program wid Calendars fer New Car Buyers is ALREADY COVERED by dis Co called Cal-Pro....up dere in UTAH. Since DEY already have DIS Niche covered, I better take a gander at some other NICHE where dere's NO Competition"!

Ya...whoopee Fiz! That kind of thinking has permeated our culture for many yrs and....nowadays....it's getting to be the "Norm"! (I'll just sit home and collect my "Obama-Stash")

When people like little ol' ME look at a niche of "New Car Dealers" of 24,000 biznesses....I think, "Hey! Cal-Pro has a great program BUT, no way Jose can they cover ALL 24,000 New Car Dealers. Which means, "Great! Someone has found a Niche Market to present their program to.

HOWEVER....does that mean that little ol' ME could NOT come up with something CLOSE to what they're doing?....to try and reach the REST OF THE NICHE that Cal-Pro doesn't reach?

So....whala....I make up MY Sample with MY kinda stuff and take it and go out and "Knock On Doors" of New Car Dealers to show them MY thingee"!

And....sure nuff! I get knocked from pillar to post by da BIG Boys, THEN, I happen to "connect" with ONE Car Dealer and.....HE BUYS MY PROGRAM!

I then use HIM as a "Launch-Pad" to other Dealers and....before I know it, I've go 22 New Car Dealers PAYING LITTLE OL' ME....for MY Program!

So....Sir Nathan....as I said previously, THIS is NOT a forum for MY KINDA STUFF (although I HAVE made a "bundle" with my "Business Valuation" software" and "Mobile Site for Restaurants in 2 Tourist towns thus far")

AND....yesterday afternoon (Friday Dec 7, 2012) I DID get "verbal OKs" from 2 GSMs (General Sales Managers of 2 local dealerships) for my "Fridge Magnets for Car Dealers"....and...granted.....THIS kinda thing is NOT for "Warriors".

Stay with tour "KeyBoard-Stuff" while US Belly-To-Belly guys have at it!

Ok "Sir" Don Alm, in all your "wiseness and wisdom".

I'm going to pose a fairly logical question. Perhaps the most logical question a person could ask at this point and time.

Since this forum so obviously dislikes "belly to belly" sales, then what gave you the bright idea, that you should promote belly to belly sales concepts to a bunch of non belly to belly marketers?

If you ARE a great salesmen, like you need to remind us of 10,000 times a year, shouldn't you focus on a market that actually cares about your ideas?

Rather than a market full of lazy minded, capitalistic, technology educated thinkers?

    Don,

I actually love your ideas and the fact that you have not let this group of nay-sayers that always shout you down stop you impresses me even more.

The problem is that we as internet savvy people, forget that a HUGE majority of people out there are not as 'educated' as we are so we automatically assume that an idea this basic has no merit. And there are so many variations you could apply. Instead of a mouse pad it could be printed cups, calendars, t-shirts etc.

There are dozens of companies that will allow you to upload a graphic onto their site or software and then get it printed and delivered without leaving your pc.

The 'mouse pad' idea is a foot in the door. Now you have the client's attention. He will wonder what else you can do for him.

It does reek of old man sales hype smell. I wrote to that point in some thread of his last year and got summarily dismissed by a number of people. I was pointing out that the style of writing is salesy and that so many people today are turned off by anything like that. I thought I was giving a heads up. But you see how your reaction to his wriiting validates my point?

In that thread he also mentioned his idea of distributing CDs if memory serves, and I mentioned why not downloads, as CDs are moving toward extinction as technology changes. But again, dismissed. Whatever. What does it have to be for people to get the point?
