Interest in "retro" products, nostalgia, and faux-vintage has been rising, and perhaps will soar in 2013.

Mobile and Facebook. Facebook is increasing. Social networking is becoming bigger and bigger. Facebook has 1/7th of the world in a database. There is no way for them to fade. Every big company has a Facebook page. Facebook marketing is getting bigger and bigger.

    It can only be mobile.

The whole Internet is shifting to mobile so it's going to be playing an important role in both online and offline marketing over the next few years. We are only now at the beginning of this mobile movement. Think the early days of the Internet. There are a ton of opportunities in the mobile movement right now and early adopters will be the real money makers.

I agree.... mobile. It's already getting a little crowded in my area (Tampa FL) but still plenty of room, I'm sure. I also agree w/ E. Brian Rose - beepers are making a HUGE comeback! plus anyone with a name that starts with an initial commands respect and authority!

Maybe taco trucks will be hot in 2013??

I recommend not basing your offline marketing on trends or what is popular and understand that the ONLY trend that is important to businesses is the trend of making money. When you can provide businesses real solutions and not just something for the sake of keeping up with the latest business trend, your reputation as a consultant will literally soar and result in more work than you can handle.

The primary goal of business is to make money. Help a business make more money and you've just set yourself apart from 99.9-percent of offline marketers who only try to sell businesses on a product or service based on a trend or cool sounding product or idea.

The thing with mobile is, the only people really pushing it are the ones trying to sell to members here. LOL.

Of course "mobile" marketing is hot... but any real marketing consultant doesn't put much stock in mobile because it doesn't bring you a massive ROI like other things. What they also don't realize, is that when a "trend" gets saturated, the bare bone techniques always work best. When people flock to SMS, how do they get their clients? They call them, cold walkin, direct mail, advertise, etc. They rarely get their clients from the marketing methods they're so fond of.

Am I against mobile? No, I ran a successful SMS business, sold it to a local company and haven't regretted it at all. It was nice while it lasted but the average sale and recurring wasn't enough to justify the time.

QR Codes, I've always been against these, it is a waste of marketing space and useless. Most people still don't know what they are... they're not going anywhere.

App development, there is potential there.

For me, offering any type of mobile marketing is simply an extra, not a core service in my opinion.

Forget about what is hot.... how do you get your clients? Are you getting them from QR codes? Doubtful. Never been a fan of following trends.... get results for your clients with multiple methods and you will have a client for life.

What does it matter? We'll all be gone after today....

I sort of am in the IAmNameless camp on this one. My own personal focus for 2013 will be to grow a pair, stop trying to get clients chasing the latest fad/trend, and get out there and talk to business owners. They'll tell you what's concerning them if you ask the right questions.

And then it's just a matter of providing the solutions that get them what they want. I also believe that most of us here on the Warrior Forum already have more than enough knowledge to provide that. It's the sales side where I know I lack, and that's what pays the bills....

Mobile app, SMS, QR Codes, and Mobile websites are a must now. Are they successful business models? Not yet, first small businesses and large corporations need to understand the importance of how these marketing platforms benefit their business. Then and only then will you be able to create a successful business strictly based on Mobile.

Now before you pull out your swords and try and cut me down just think about this.

When I say successful I mean a self sustaining business that employs, has room to grow past 1 million in annual sales, and can be duplicated. I'm sure there are some of you that have made a killing in mobile and might have surpassed a million, but can you keep it up? Can you expand into new markets? Can you continue this for years to come... consistently?

In my eyes the only way, right now, to succeed in the mobile world is to have a strong and proven front end platform and keep mobile as a back-end product.

That's just me and my 2 cents and I wish everyone the best of luck in 2013

PS - My business model uses QR Codes, a Mobile App, and a Mobile Friendly Website as a draw for my clients target market. However, this is not what I pitch to the business. I to show them how these things will benefit user accessibility.

Rotary Phones are gonna make the biggest comeback, EVER!!!

Mobile Marketing (mobile web and sms) are gonna be hot. I mean come on, every "analytical expert" and their mother is predicting that! My other bid would go to rep. Management.

But you know what's gonna be REALLY HOT?

Like burn the roof of your mouth hot!

Whatever your customer needs to grow their business! Don't attempt to sell them the latest and greatest, they might not need that.

When I first started offline, all I sold was apps. You know how many places turned me down? a lot! I can't even remember how many places I visited, called and emailed but out of them all I sold 3 apps, that's it.

Find out what is lacking in your potential client's business and offer them solutions to fix it (thank you WillR for opening my eyes to that one idea).

2 months ago I met with a real estate office owner. I was showing him his website on a mobile device and showing him why he needed a mobile site. His first question after I finished my presentation... Can you redo my existing website? 7 months ago I would have said "No I only do mobile sites." So I told him yes, and closed a deal. Once the site is ready to go (it's almost wrapped up; both desktop and mobile site) he has already expressed interest in doing a PPC campaign.

In other words, in 2013, being adaptable will continue to be hot. If you can't do it yourself, find someone who can.

This is not a wise guy answer though it may sound like one.

The most powerful offline niche will be the one where you can use

There are too many "shiny object" salespeople who have no

I read all of these responses and the first thing to my mind is the understanding of the true economic buyer for most of the technical services related to any kind of online marketing, mobile, etc...

Most small businesses have no earthly idea how to incorporate some tactical-level tool into their overall business because they really don't have a grasp on the entire relation between marketing and their core business offering itself.

Larger businesses tend to work with agencies or broader marketing consultants who then subcontract to subject matter experts for specific services.

So I would say, the "big thing" for this specific cluster of service providers ("offline marketers" a la Warrior Forum/Internet Marketing) would be to better define the true economic buyer for their actual service delivery, and narrow their marketing focus to target those buyers in a rifle scope fashion within a well-defined segment vs. the shotgun scramble approach of taking all comers and reinventing the wheel with every client engagement.

Trends for offline in 2013 will continue to be basic, straightforward products and services that provide the client high value and an ability to find an immediate ROI.
Political and economic uncertainty will continue to prevent any real success in frivolous or trendy purchases traditionally supported by discretionary spending.
High value, straight forward and collaborative approaches will continue to sell well.

Most here are talking about technology.

I see the most valuable service to clients is optimizing
      what they already have.

Most have the foundations laid for driving strong growth,
they just need someone to come in to squeeze every last
drop of money out of it.

A plumber gets $180,000 xtra year on year from his better Yellow Pages ad.

A chiropractor gets $60,000 in 90 days from sending out a come back letter.

A car dealer gets 110% more car test drives by changing the
placement of the sign up web form.

Guys and gals will make a killing cleaning up the mess
left by sellers of shiny objects.

Business owners want a breather from all the new technology,

Agreed. Anything that will make your clients more money will be hot.

If anything, building lists of customers (email or sms) that already have a relationship with the business. List building is so common to us, but most business owners don't have a clue about actually capturing contact information of people and building a relationship over time. (i.e. building lifetime value)

Sometimes it can be better not to go with what is hot. Instead try going the opposite direction. You will have less competition. A lot of business people may be getting pitched about making their site mobile optimized. If you pitch for a different service which is not being offered by many, you eliminate competition.

I think video marketing can be an awesome service to offer offline clients in 2013. Not much people are paying attention to it. You can create small videos related to the business of your client, put them on Youtube, try to get them ranked and direct the traffic to a lead capture page. The beauty is that videos get ranked quickly and easily. You can get tons of leads for your clients and make him happy and pocket some nice cash! By the way, the videos don't have to be Oscar-winning ones.

Got to agree with the woman who said to provide solutions.

But when I think about "solutions" I think more specifically about "money". Thats all businesses really care about is money. They are based on capitalism, and capitalism is all about capitalizing on things, and making money.

You can sell a business whatever you want, but if it doesn't put money in their pocket, they have no reason to care.

This is probably the most simple fact to understand about business/economics in general, but for some reason so many marketers seem to miss it.

And I also agree that if you focus on this more than anything, you will have more referalls, and more business than you can ever handle.

For me it is going to be selling leads, mobile is all fine and dandy but it is still a hard sale due to the bad economy over here, i found a big dip down in my mobile sales... but selling converting leads is going to be the thing this your for me... businesses don't want gadgets like mobile sites, QR codes and stuff like that, they want the phone to ring with new clients TODAY!

I think off-liners will find it becoming more and more harder to sell mobile apps and sites due to the bad economy, and that is why i t think it is a better strategy to mix it up more to LG

I think off-liners will find it becoming more and more harder to sell mobile apps and sites due to the bad economy, and that is why i t think it is a better strategy to mix it up more to LG
Makes a lot of sense. The "shiny new objects", in this case new marketing widgets, don't sell well in poor economies. Especially when the small biz owners dont even understand them. Heck, many don't even understand much about marketing.

  • ...despite being completely technically dense I actually hope the "mobile" stuff will be hot.

Because a % of people are like me, confused and a touch bewildered with their smart phones cluttered up with endless apps.

I can nip in and say to clients "good news, how about bits of card and ink?"

Once they get over the sheer shock...

I'll be organising dozens of Flyer and Postcard campaigns.

There's never been and never will be a shortage of clients who'll greatly benefit from them and reap in huge volumes of revenues.

And the clients can be tech less, app less, QR less, twitter less, face book less, and even inter webless. It really doesn't matter.

Ironically, and I don't mind in the least, if clients want to use them to promote the latest mobile marvels.

They did very well in 2012. Should do even better in 2013.

Mobile application will get hotter next year, anything related (and helpful) in a gadget (smartphone, tablet, etc) will get more attention. People now addicted to gadgets, build an app that support your business should be a great idea. CMIIW

I think most Offline could do Social Marketing better. It promotes themselves while at the same time making themselves available to their customers. I just recently created all the Facebook pages and Google Plus Pages for our company and was surprised how many people "are talking about this" but how little "likes" and +1s we get in comparison
