SEO in small cities/large towns?

Do you think its going to be challenging to close prospects on seo services in small cities, say under 50k, where there is no Google keyword search data available? I was thinking of just extrapolating data from the nearest city w/similar demographics that does have keyword search data. It seems critical to be able to prove and quantify the potential for new business.

I'm wondering if I'm barking up the wrong tree and maybe should focus on PPC or Google Places, etc.

Any insight is appreciated.

In smaller areas we've seen that they don't care (or know as much) about SEO/PPC/rankings etc. However, IF you offer sites/redesigns, you can easily package that in or upsell.

These smaller places and businesses don't feel that they have competition, doesn't matter if they do, even if you think you can convince them that they need it. Go for what they will purchase and still need (a site or upgraded site) and then focus on additions.

Again, just my opinion on what we've seen with smaller clients.

Here's what I've found clients want in big or small cities, MONEY!

So, in any size city (but for this example small cities because that's your question) you can set up a plugin like local pages ninja or ? other one. You write one page of really good content and go for that town and ALL the outlying areas, counties, cities, towns areas etc... The plugin will make it titled for all the cities you put on a list in the plugin settings.

Make the leads call a phone number. You use call fire (cheap) and you charge all your clients $5 to $50 per call depending on the industry. Call fire re routes the call to your client and generates an invoice that you bill your clients with monthly.

You can rank for all those little towns like mad because there's no comp at all.

I coulda done 7 pages on this and made this a WSO but oh well, here you go.

P.S. You do all the areas for one client with just one site.

So one page of content duplicated across the same site with different pages titles works?
I was under the impression that duplicated content causes a problem for rankings

If the people of the small city can make a good sales and get more revenue without your seo services, then why should you offer seo to them? however, if they want to pay the cost you charge it's a luck of you.

Im not sure who your targeting but you pull data from more broad keywords, and also use broad match search in the google keyword tool and show them what the "potential" traffic could be to there site.
