I was thinking about printing some basic flyers up and putting them on the cars at my college campus with offers like the Free Ipad, etc. which will entice students to do a simple email-sub offer or zip-sub. I was wondering if this was illegal or I could run into any trouble doing this?
Just curious before I delve into it. I figure with a few hundred bucks I can turn it into a few thousand in a month or so First time doing offline marketing i am IM only but if this goes well I can see serious potential for growth
Let me know your thoughts / experiences with similar methods, I know this is not at all unique.

Well, campus is private property so you will need to be diligent. You
could be caught by campus security and charged with trespassing.

Most likely just get booted off the grounds.

Check bars on Friday or Saturday nights that are near campus.

Definitely agree with this. You could likely get away with it for a little while on a college campus, but, like Irish Intuition said, you're likely to get caught eventually by campus security and have a nice discussion with them about it. I like the suggestion about finding a bar near campus and doing it there better too.

Make sure you get permission from your Affiliate manager and let them proof the postcard/flyer before you print it. Make sure they know what you are doing.... They may freak out if you dont and see all these conversions from the same area...

Most colleges - the big ones have tons of public and general use bulletin boards. Why not just post the flyer there? You may have to get it approved by student services first. They typically approve anything that isn't political or obscene.

Put tear tags on the bottom of the flyers and revisit the location in a week. The tags are another way you can tell if the flyers are working.

If you have Google Analytics on the page you can also look for an uptick in direct traffic.

    On a side note:

One of my competitors takes a two person crew into the really big parking garages and they work their way down floor by floor.

Not saying it is legal, but the most likely outcome is - you'll be told to leave. I've only known two people that have gotten a fine for placing flyers but the risk is of course yours.
