Craigslist Question

Hello! I'm new to the forum although I've been lurking for years.
Anyway I had a question for those who do business from Craigslist:
In your experience, what percentage of craigslist users are actually serious business people with money to spend?
I used to get the impression that most businesses that advertise there are one-man low budget side job operations.
Thanks in advance for all input.

  • In fairness, CL is going to be composed of all types of people which is generally true to life.

The bottom line is, people are selling there so there are clearly buyers.

    • Co-signing on what you said, it seems that it will only be a matter of time before it "catches on" to the big guys...at that point the scene might change.
  • I do see more of the smaller one man operations posting ads in my area. But, I have been seeing more larger businesses use it. I think many of the larger businesses simply don't consider it as a place to advertise.

They simply don't realize how many people use this resource and are missing out.
  • I'd say many have good intentions, but a lot of tire kickers and whatnot...
  • I have 9 ads posted for me everyday on craigslist, I get about 2 phone calls every day and average 2 new clients every week paying $300+ per month. Craigslist is a gold mine if you are consistent
  • I use CL to get customers for my clients.... CL by design is used by BUYERS so it's definitely a good place to post either your services or your client's services! Just as TroyCo said, the key is consistency! Keep posting!
  • I have found that posting in the services section under small biz ads and financial generated me leads with the money to spend. My average enrollment/sale is $3500. If you offer a good service, product or business opportunity stick to posting in those sections for best leads with some financial backing.
  • Those who have consistently marketed on Craigslist typically receive great results. I know quite a few offliners who are using Craigslist as their main source of clients, and are spending thousands of dollars a month on posting services. If you can find a reliable company who can post, stick with them.

Who you attract is all about how they perceive your company. Test different ad copies and adjust.

    • I will not lie. Craigslist has landed me about 6 clients and I have received several calls from my ads. The only problem I have with Craigslist is that the majority of the clients I sign are not good paying clients.

If you are trying to land some clients quick, then Craigslist is great. If you are trying to land clients that will pay your price and upgrade at a later time, then I recommend you find clients that are already spending. For example, clients that are using services like Adwords but are not utilizing Google Plus Local. Email marketing works best for me.
