Google+ Page: Weird Issue, Please Help

I am hoping that someone here can help since you deal with multiple google+ pages while I just deal with the one currently.

I can't seem to edit the google plus page for our dealership. When I click on manage this page it takes me into the old google places editing area.

Also the page doesn't show up under my "pages" links.

So the page is claimed and has been forever but it will not let me edit it. And the pictures and videos from the old places page are not carrying over to the google+ page.

Has anyone here had this issue and do you have any suggestions?

What I am most interested is fixing the picture as it shows a fan uploaded picture of their fifth wheel vs. one of the pictures of our dealership.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Am I right to assume that you've verified both the G plus business page and also the "old" local listing resulting in a merging of the two?

They appear to be merged but I don't remember ever manually doing that.

Any time I hit anything to edit or claim the plus page I am taken to the edit page for google places.

Not a clue what I am doing wrong and can't find anything via google searches to explain what is going on.

My reply disappeared here. Must not have posted right.

I never found an option to merge them. I read somewhere is I create a business page than I can merge that with the local plus page and that may work.

The merging happens automatically. So don't worry, you didn't miss the option

Are both the business page and the local listing verified using the same Google account?

I never verified the plus page. It always takes me to the backend of the places page when I click on the edit links on it.

Everything appears to be linked but not fully or properly. I've been google searching on and off today trying to come up with a solution but can't find anyone experiencing this same problem.

I want to assume "user error" since that is the easiest to fix once you figure out what you did wrong.

ok, rather than write out G+ 101 here. If you want me to take a look PM me the account logins and links for the listings. I'll take a look. Be sure to send off the security verification answers so I can access the account.

Just like Kunfu is trying to say.. if the listing is merged then you can edit it from the G+ Business dashboard. Go to: https://plus.google.com/ login with the account, go to more then click on pages, if you already have a Google + Business page created then you will see it there. To access the places dashboard go to: Google login then click edit. Good luck keep us posted!

Thanks, Stone. But it can't be merged since he said he hasn't verified the business page. That's why I'd like to take a look. All this back and forth just confuses things lol

ah sorry, mate. Didn't mean for my last comment to have any sort of 'tone' to it. Didn't mean anything by it at all. Sorry that it came across that way.

I'm having a similar issue. Everything's under the same account, everything had been previously verified. And yet, with this new merging G did, my videos and reviews from clients haven't transferred over, just the description and photos have, though everything all still shows up in the old places dashboard. Through the old places dashboard I rewrote the description, submitted it, and that shows up in the new G+ pages, but again, not the videos and reviews. What gives?

I should add: that's regarding my G "local" page. When I click on G "pages" I see my listing under the same business name, but nothing I've added at all. No description, no photos, nothing. I don't understand what G's doing at all. When I'm in my G "places" dashboard and it says "click toi see your listing" it takes me to what I described in the above paragraph, without my videos and reviews, on my G "local" listing. It's totally confusing.

    • misterme, if you are talking the Place page for the link in your sig, you have a some suspendable violations and other problems.

1st off re your Qs. Videos have been disabled for several months now so that's why they don't show.

2nd since your address is hidden you are not eligible to merge your Place page with G+ yet. So don't try. Google is telling folks that have hidden address service area businesses they now need to DELETE their + page if they've already merged it. Yours is not merged yet, so I'd leave as is.

On the Place page itself, major violations.

      1) Title is LONG ISLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER G.E. Masana"
You can't have keywords and city in the title, only your actual business name.

      2) Plus Google will often reject listings that have name all in caps.

      3) You also can't have city in categories.

#1 and #3 are the 2 biggest reasons listings get suspended.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I think many are confusing G+ Business pages with the Local pages. Last year the front end of the local pages changed. The change was largely cosmetic and you still access these through your old places dashboard. As Linda said, videos are disabled. Still useful for seo, but not visible.

But as of today, there is still a difference between local pages and busines pages. Unless they are eligible for merging and you've initiated that merge, there's no reason to expect that you can access you "new" local page any other way than through the original places dashboard. Remember, the change was largely cosmetic on the front end.... so there's not much "new" there.

Ok that now makes me understand my problem.

Can I effect the look (aka the picture) on the local page?

And if I create a business page will I likely be able to merge them?

Thanks. My boss noticed the customer photo showing up on the G+ local page and asked me to fix it but I will just avoid it for now.

It shows a camper and one we sold him so it is all good.

Great, thanks! By the way, what about reviews, why don't they transfer? I have reviews on G places as well as on other sites, which all used to display.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7562444].message }}
    • Reviews are in a separate database and sometimes get lost or misplaced. Sometimes they come back. But it looks to me like your listing just started over and is working into the local database. It WAS ranking yesterday. Today it's disconnected from your organic and dropped out of the local results. So either it's starting over in the ranking cycle as a new listing or you are being penalized for all the violations.

No, everything was showing up before (despite the alleged violations) but I deleted photos and replaced them, cleaned up the name, and voila, the whole thing's gone.

    • "Huntington NY Wedding Photographer" You are E so not gone and are able to show up in local.

But any change to name and other stuff can affect ranking. Plus it looks like you changed your service area. That can affect ranking too.

Biggest problem is you are trying to rank for NYC and you set your service area to NYC but in G local there is NO WAY you are going to rank in that competitive of a city and that competitive of a KW unless your address is actually in NYC.

Google "NYC Wedding Photographer" and click more results or go direct to Places search. You can go back 5 pages deep and not a single business is listed that does not have a New York address.

Setting your service area for NYC has no impact at all on ranking for NYC and I think may have hurt your ranking for Huntington, because before at least you ranked #1 there. Now you are E.
