Homeland Security urges computer users to disable Java

That's the title of a story at:

Java warning: Government warns hackers are using Java - chicagotribune.com

It appears from what the guvmint agents are saying, java now presents a bigger threat than it ever has. Oracle didn't havea comment for the article so that tells me the article is spot on.

If this is actually as big a problem as proclaimed, I can see the huge impact. I'd bet we all use java. I won't go into liability issues but maybe a client would.

Love to hear your thoughts...

Interesting story. However I feel you might be confusing Java, with Javascript - two different things.

Over the past year i've developed 100's of projects and never have I had to rely on Java.

I quoted the article and in it they specifically say java software. I agree with you and I have may have misspoken myself about all of us using Java. Regardless, IMHO, I think the article is worth a read.

I appreciate your post as it sets the record straight.

The truth is that most big companies and agency just cant disable it. Many of their corpo applications run on java or interact with Oracle software... so they'll have to just live with it and wait for a patch....

As for the most regular/home users, just do as usual. Be attentive and keep your security software up to date.

This is so true. Just think of business whose entire management system work on Java. I used to work at a hotel reception desk and if we had to disable Java until they came out with an update, we would have to shut the place down.
