How To Make This Guys Take Action--HELP!

Hello Warriors,

Wow, I have been away from this wonderful and enterprising forum for some time and when I do come around, I just read and leave without dropping any comment. Well it has not been easy for me but being warrior, I also possess that diehard spirit which makes me think out side the box...

I left school in September broke but was able to get 5,000 naira in Nigerian currency (an equivalent of $22) and turned it in $500 by flipping a domain name and since then I have been trying to build something from it.

I have tried to get response from other domainers but I think this is where marketing comes in... but at the same time, I dont wanna sound desperate just to get them to buy the domain because I have learnt that if they do sense and element of desperation, they could use this against me.

I have a problem with one of my domains now and hopefully, I just wish it does not happen with the second one that just started last week wherein I email them and they asked how much... I replied with a $1000 asking price but made it known to them that I am open to negotiation.

In the first domain, we had talked back and forth since November. The end user said they will only consider buying my domain name if the price was really low. so I told him to make an offer and that if his price was fair enough, I will sell the domain to him. He later replied me to thank me and said he will get in touch with his company directors and will contact me as soon as a decision is made. This was in November and the company is a realestate company that was established in the 80s. My domain is the a .com version of theirs. Funny thing is that the man is the founder of the company and I wonder what is the need to contact company directors for when he could just do it. Though I asked them for a $1700 but after some weeks of not hearing from them, I reduced it to $1200 and that was before he said he would contact his company directors.

But uptill now, I have not heard from them and I also emailed the man last week.

Last week, I got another email from a big laundry company in the UK where a woman asked me how much I want for my domain name, I told her $1000 but also said she should let me know what she has in mind. I stated that if I her price is fair enought, I will sell the domain name to her.

I will like to know what tactics could be used to make this people take action and buy the domain name ASAP. I hate waiting long on a domain someone has already showed interest and is this norm with big corporate bodies? I mean delaying when they should have just grab the domain once and for all after showing interest, especailly when the seller creates a negotiation window.

Above is the same message I posted in a domaining forum. How would you tackle a situation liked this. Imagin you want to sell a website and some asked you how and the whole thing snowballed into what I have written. But do note all communication has been via emails and I am based in Nigeria.

I just feel bad because I had planned to use the money to import some products to sell.
How can I make them take action?
Thanks!

Typical triggers that often influence people to act are:
    - Scarcity. If they think there isn't enough of something they are more likely to move quickly.
    - Competition. If they think their competitor will get it they are more likely to move on it.
    - Timelines. If they think that time is running out or a price will go up they are more likely to move.

I think you need to make your offer and incorporate one or more of those aspects into the offer.

Thanks guys, I realised my mistake was not creating that scarcity and competition in the intro-letter that was sent out and this really made them feel reluctant to make a buying decision. This does not mean that they wont buy though, but it may take a long time for them to make that decision.

    Regards...

If the domain name doesn't contain anything that's been trademarked, you might want to tell them what can be done with the website, i.e., it could be used to generate leads. You could do it, then sell the leads to whoever is willing to pay, including their competitors, or they could do it and take away leads that might, otherwise, have ended up buying from the competition.

I get contacted every few months by some guy who has the .com version of one of my clients domains - he's got the .ca, has cards, advertising, and basically everything he needs under the .ca. So we really have no use for the .com version unless it was around Reg fee or a bit higher.

Face it - if your market for this domain is one company and they aren't interested for north of a grand, you're out of luck. Move on to the next and learn your lesson.
