Why is it called offline?

I know the businesses are offline. But the methods we are using are mostly online. Doesn't make sense, does it?

If your biz was called Online Local Marketing, wouldn't that be more telling (to small biz owners) than Offline Local Marketing?

Here's a definition I got from Googling: offline marketing
Methods of marketing that do not involve the interent. Examples include direct mail, billboards, and print advertising. Also refered to as traditional advertising.

It is offline so far as it is not online. Doing both makes more sense. I see your point on asking this question.

It's OFFLINE in the sense that we market our services to our clients in traditional ways. We us the phone, face to face, direct mail, email, and other methods to sell to them. In some cases we sell them internet services, in some we sell them traditional methods of marketing their services to their customers.

      Not that hard to understand.

Your question has no context. I mean who calls it offline marketing? Are you talking about the WarriorForum section itself? If yes, then offline marketing is correct. It's a forum about marketing offline to businesses. We are the ones doing the marketing and it's being done offline.

Or, are you talking about offering online marketing services to businesses? If that's a yes, I still say that I don't know anybody calling search engine optimization an offline marketing method. When people talk to these businesses, they certainly let them know they are offering online marketing services.

It is offline since you're not using the internet. Phone calls does not use internet, face-to-face business deal or selling does not use internet.

You have to look at the history of the forum to understand where
      the term came from.

Around 5 years ago we started a huge discussion about the possibility
of selling your internet marketing services to OFFLINE businesses
      (brick and mortar businesses).

Over time because so many marketers began making serious money
and because the niche became so large the warrior forum decided
to give the topic its own section in the forum.

So the Offline Marketing forum was originally about helping offline
businesses with their online marketing and getting hired by those
      businesses.

      Kindest regards,

"Online Local Marketing" would make more sense to use in your business name and description. "Offline Marketing" is an industry term used primarily by the people who work within it. It means nothing to a business owner. Your term is better.

Yeppers. That's what I was going to say.

Nevertoolate, we just call it "offline" in the online IM world to differentiate from offers/methods that are strictly about online tactics for businesses completely online, such as blogging and affiliate marketing.

Some people call it "local marketing" as in you are going around to local businesses helping them promote their business online.

The Offline Section really have two themes.

    1. Local Marketing: ie using online marketing to help local businesses
    2. True offline marketing: TV, Radio Direct Mail, Cold Calling

They seem to work well together and the name works for both.

I believe it's been coined the "offline marketing" section because we discuss marketing strategies to utilize for brick and mortar businesses.

Thanks for all the fine answers. I kind of figured as such, but wanted to get it from the horses mouth.

Do any of you use "online" or "local" in your biz names?

I believe some people do. We use local in our script and in the face to face we do. We don't use online for anything since we are there to help them build an online presence and they know it already.

However, we are doing it offline and it seems to work. Now that sir is confusing but think about it.
