How do YOU find local businesses with Facebook Pages?

Hey all - I'm putting together a list of local businesses to contact via FB and just using Google to search facebook for pages with a (keyword) + (city name) and that works pretty well...but I'm wondering if there are better, more efficient ways to find local businesses with FB pages?

I do recall seeing a WSO sometime ago that allowed you to search within Facebook but can't think of the name of it now, and searching directly on FB for me has gotten mixed results.

Would appreciate any tips or tricks you've got - thanks!

Steve

While logged into Facebook, I type in the city name within the search bar at the very top (says, "Search for people, places and things").

Choose/click the result that has the word "City" underneath the actual city you're looking for.

Once you do that, simply enter the type of business (or actual business name) you want to target within the search field right under, "Places in ____________"

Easier, better results, and more efficient than going through Google.

    Hope this helps.

You could also try a scraper for these purposes as well. Are you on the US?

Great tips - thanks! That'll help to like and contact a number of pages quickly and while I wish I could search the county like this, locating some other cities nearby should be easy enough to do.

Thanks Mark. I'm in PA, so if you know of any scrapers or recall that WSO I mentioned earlier, I'd love to know about em.

Why don't you do this: make a fb ad, target business owners in that region and make them register for an webinar or just make them opt-in to receive your educational marketing pieces.

Want to let you (and others) know a little, helpful hint...

I always right click & open their FB Page in a new tab.
I find it easier to navigate vs. clicking on their link & having to keep hitting the back button.

Also, I just got Facebook's new Open Graph feature set up, so this may make things easier for us to find local businesses. So far, it's pretty neat.

There was FB Leadster which is closed and there's Mobile Renegade by kenmichaels.

The Facebook plugin was only added recently around December to Mobile Renegade (like a christmas present ). So, it might not be reflected on the sales page that it has that feature, but then again it might not be part of the original mobile renegade software  so you might just want to ask him before you purchase if you go that route.

In the past, you could use CitySearch for twitter and facebook directory. This is a link to the "old" site. on the new site, I can't find a link to the social media directory. Perhaps, you have to login?

    I searched for Boston:

Social Media Directory | Boston, MA Businesses on Facebook and Twitter

Not really looking to use ads just yet, as I'm working on a local directory and plan to contact local businesses through their FB page, but thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks - checking out that closed WSO and while it wasn't the one I think I remember seeing, it looks like it would simplify the job.

I've had mobile renegade since last summer, but may need to update that to play with again if Fan pages are not something that turns up!

Thanks SirThomas! That looks useful and I'll have to try it out too. I've also been experimenting with different Google searches such as (niche)+(location)+(find us on facebook) and having some results with a few tweaks to my original searches.

      Thanks all for your comments!
