Check out this SWEET Direct Mail Piece I just got.

I get home to a pile of mail, including some others with decent coupons BUT this one got my immediate attention.

First time seeing these, imagine their response rate is much higher than regular "postcards". It has a texture and feel of a normal gift card.

I have never been to this place but I plan on going next month to use it and get an idea of how many responses they got.

These are common in the auto repair industry, Clients are charged $1 piece, artwork, plastic & postage.

Is there room for disruption? Cost reduction?

don't think so, they have it buttoned down pretty good.

In the past I've had a couple clients use these in their ad campaigns.

If you want a general idea of cost, etc., here's a website that prints them.

I can't actually make out what it is. Is there something in the packaging or is it still a postcard with a $5 off voucher?

It is a hard plastic "postcard" with 2 perforated gift cards that can be removed.

    .
I love posts like these. The plastic postcard with detachable card has been around for over 10 years and it's great seeing posts by people seeing them for the first time and thinking it's something brand new. Love it!

There's a business reply card mailer burial insurance agents send out that's remained relatively unchanged for 20- to 30-plus years.

Response rates have dropped, but it pulls well enough, consistently enough, to make a living off the sales from responses.

Don't think he was being condescending.

It's just nice seeing that "Old Faithfuls" are still new to certain demographics.

I like a little attitude. Keeps the forum spicy

As for the mail piece, is it getting a better response, enough to justify the stiff costs? Looks
like some of the printing services want a minimum order of 2500 which puts it at around
$2500 to print and send. I'd like to test it with a small run, personally.

I'd like to know what their ROI was.

Update , I went to eat there yesterday afternoon and asked about the results.
The lady said she thought about 5000 were distributed but that could be off a little.

Regardless, they have been slammed since they came out last week. She says easily 200 cards have already been used, the two tables on either side of us were using cards.

And as I suspected no one bothered to try and get my email address or get me to opt in to a text campaign.

As for the food and service I give them a solid B. Would I come without a coupon, probably not as it was a tad pricier than I like and I still have one more gift card to use.

Wow, over a 4% redemption rate!! That's very, very good for direct mail. Would love to know how targeted the list was they mailed to.

7-10% wouldn't even be unheard of for something like this.

There's not much need to target, since you're reaching as broad of a demographic as you can pretty much get.

Dont know about avg ticket , our bill was 13.00 after $10 deducted.
Most items were between 7.99 to 9.99.

I dont think the targeting was too specific as most homes within 3 miles are middle to upper middle class. A few lesser quality neighborhoods are close by that may have gotten passed over when the list was built.

This was a very good offer and it stood out like a sore thumb. I can tell you that in over 20 years our household has never gotten a mailer like this one, so its very likely that in this area no one else has gotten one either as we get lots of crap mail.

The company has a resale program so if you have someone that can invest say 5 grand or so to do a mailout and you backed it up with an recurring email or text campaign to bring these people back then it is likely to be golden...
