National SEO campaign

I am working on putting together a proposal for both Adwords/ SEO for a large research company. They are currently spending $1500/ mth on Adwords. The company has large resources but they are only 6 months old. Most of the keywords are between 10K-6mil searches. I have never put together a proposal of this magnitude. I don't know where to begin regarding pricing, length of time for rankings, or where to outsource such a project. I am thinking 20 percent ad budget regarding the Adwords campaign. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

THANKS!

It sounds like you are managing Adwords and SEO campaigns for businesses, then outsourcing projects to third parties. Is this correct?

Sam-Yes this is correct. I just dont have a good idea how to price a national campaign such as this.

How many hours do you expect to work on this project (total man hours not just yours ) ? I manage a local SEO company and I have tiered pricing guidelines. It depends on what they want . IE: does it include site design , social media management and what not. You need to make sure and find out exactly what you are going to be doing for the client.

I will be outsourcing all the work. This is just SEO and ADWORDS. No webdesign or social media!

Will this be managed on a contract basis ? Also do you have set outsourcers in place or are you still trying to find out how much they will cost?

I have no idea how much the outsourcers would cost . I have no idea how long it would take to rank. I have no idea how much to charge. Can anyone give me advice from their experience?

Your questions are vague. It depends on the keywords you use and the resources you bring to bear.

      Random example:

promotional products would take longer to rank (about 2 times as long) as promotional items. For both, it would be a constant battle to keep them on page 1, let alone in the top position.

corporate gifts, though it has a lot less traffic, is about as hard as promotional items.

On the other hand, promotional sports water bottles would rank with just onpage SEO. But, almost no traffic.

If I were you, I'd propose groups of keywords... lots of long tail keywords in each group. And go after the each long tail keyword at first, it would make ranking for the tough ones easier to wait for.

      group example:
how to lose belly fat fast for women
how to lose belly fat fast
how to lose belly fat for women
      losing belly fat fast
      lose belly fat
      lose fat
how to lose belly fat fast for men
how to lose belly fat for men
how to lose belly fat women
how to lose belly fat women
      how to lose belly fat

If you go for lose fat from the beginning, they'll get tired waiting for results. If you start with the long tail ones, results will be faster (depending on which keyword, within day to 2 months).

Everyone wants to rank for the tough keyword... mortgage brokers want to rank for mortgage and mortgages and mortgage rates. But they'd benefit more and much faster if they went for current mortgage rates San Diego, best San Diego mortgage brokers. And, on national side of things, keywords like: average car insurance prices per month (as opposed to car insurance rates).

When you dominate a bunch of long tail keywords, then you go for car insurance, car insurance rates and similar.

Again, hard to answer the ranking question as we don't know the resources you will have, where they're ranking now (position for all their keywords, including the tough ones), and which keywords you'll go for.

If you have resources like Bank of America, you can rank for something like promotional products in a month. If you have resources like me, 8 months. By ranking, I mean going to #1 or 2.

It also depends on the strategy you use... Buying a few domains with pr5 and linking back from the page with pr5 will get you there a lot faster than blogging, facebook, articles, forums, etc. And for less.

On the other hand, blogging and the likes, have (can have) value outside of ranking.

By the way, before you do any work, find out if the site converts. There are keywords you'll rank them for that don't convert... Or, you'll get to be #1 for a keyword with 1,600 exact match searches and it will get you only 90 visits per month, not the expected 500+.

If that's on top of the site not converting well, you'll look bad.

You'll look bad if the site converts poorly anyway. So, make sure the site converts at least decently. No point in sending them 3,000 visitors if they're only going to sell to 5 when they expect to sell to 65.

Also, national companies benefit from local keywords too.

I know exact dollar amounts would be better for you.

So, something like current va mortgage rates will get you to be number 20-22 with the cost of content and onpage optimization.

Something like remortgages, took me 60 article backlinks, 20 or 30 (I don't remember exactly) bookmarking links, and some 30 article/blog commenting links 2 years ago to make it to #1. Same amount of effort, got me to be #3 for remortgage.

Back then, the competition was about 20% lighter. Also, my articles were picked up by others. I created 350 total backlinks to my site. Within 8 months, I had over 1100. (But I ranked #1 an 2 for the keywords I mentioned, in the US within 2 months. Stayed there for almost 2 year without doing anything else... just because people were putting my articles on their sites).

The traffic died down when the $8000 credit to new buyers ended and I lost interest too... so, I've been out for a while.

    Well, it's pretty simple really.

Firstly, you need to be real with yourself, about whether you are actually even capable of providing the company with the SEO results they desire (don't let the excitement of potential cash make you forget that there'll be real work involved)

Secondly, you need to know specifically how much the campaign is going to cost to outsource, including any "hidden" costs, you might not have initially thought about..

Thirdly, you need to work out how much time it's going to take you, and what you value your time at, on an hourly basis.

That's pretty much it, broken down to basic simplicity
