I'm planning to start a weekly or monthly podcast.

I'm wondering if it's possible to do without investing in equipment.

Can you recommend any FREE podcasting resources?

Thanks!

RRG

P.S. If you're thinking of posting one of those smart-ass "Let Me Google That For You" links, do it somewhere else. I will, of course, conduct my own Google search. I'm posting this specifically to ask for direction from anyone who can recommend a specific resource. Thanks again.

My problem with BlogTalkRadio is that their ads are all over the place.

Honestly, putting down $30 for a headset on Amazon or Walmart is something that will pay off for years to come whenever you run interviews, create videos, products, dictate content... I would just do it.

Think about what you would tell someone if they asked where to get free web hosting for their business. You'd say, invest in your business and pay for the web hosting.

      Robert, thanks for your response.

      I agree with your point.

Are you saying I can get a decent microphone/headset to record the file and turn it into a podcast? What else would I need?

As far as microphones: the go Mic from Samsung It's 40 bucks and sounds really good.
Blue makes really good microphones, the snowball is about 70 bucks, the yeti is 100 bucks, it sounds better And has more features than the snowball.
If you go to today in iOS.com he teaches how to podcast from an iPad, not sure if you have one but…

I don't have an iPad. FreeConferenceCall.com and BlogTalkRadio.com have options to record a podcast from a phone, but I'm guessing the sound quality is not going to be great, especially from a cell phone.

  • Get a good headset.

Download Audacity or similar (6 Awesome Alternatives To Audacity For Recording & Editing Audio) for free.

Press record, talk into mic. Export as Mp3.

Upload to your own site or podcast sites like iTunes or BlogTalkRadio.

I'm not a good resource for that. I just use the cheap ones from Best Buy or Fry's Electronics--it's all I need. Do a search on podcast mics or headsets. You should get some good stuff.

I'm a little unsure about what you exactly mean by 'free podcasting'. I thought podcasting was simply a case of making a recording (using software such as Audacity) and then simply uploading it to Itunes, etc.

However, if you were talking podcasting platforms such as BlogTalkRadio, there's also Talkshoe.com

I was hoping to be able to record a podcast without investing in equipment.

Based on what I've read here, a microphone is considered a must-have.

I listen to a lot of audio, I am totally blind, so audio is my thing.

An Expensive microphone is not Really necessary.
Like I said the $40 microphone sounds Really good, A whole hell of a lot better than your computer microphone will make you sound. But for the best sound without spending a few hundred dollars The yeti microphone will make you sound really great.
Yeah, you may have sweatpants and a t-shirt lying around, but is that how you want to present yourself?
Especially when you're trying to convince someone to trust you.

You can listen to samples on YouTube.

I was just listening to the I love marketing podcast, and they almost always sound wonky, they are either recording through phones, which makes the volume really low so I have to crank up my iPhone just to hear them clearly, but it's Dean Jackson and Joe polish, they giveaway a lot of value on the show.

If you're someone like John Carlton, Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, etc. then a Ghetto Sounding audio won't affect things too much.

But if you're a "nobody" it's probably a good idea to go ahead and spend 40-100 bucks and get a condenser USB microphone that will make your voice sound really clear and powerful.
I finally got mine after 3 go-rounds with damaged ones.
I've tried to attach a sample, but I'm not sure if I did it right.

Get some audio editing software. That way you can put your intro tag on your podcast. Also you can cut out bad takes and adjust your levels if they are too low or too hot. If they have equing options you can learn basic equing to clean it up.

source : Me : Former amateur music producer/current tv video producer.

I'm sure there is some free ones out there and someone can point you to them. Don't spend too much time editing, but just enough to sweeten your show so it sounds loud, clear and professional.
