Call the homeowners from inside their home. That'll spook them into wanting an alarm system. Just kidding of course. From what I've seen, Jason Kanigan on the forum here has some pretty great advice on formulating telephone scripts. They sound natural and non salesy. You may want to check out his posts.

I have no real expertise to offer here. But is this the type of lead that is interested in a home security system? Or are they just willing to talk to you because you are offering a gift? That makes a huge difference.

My very first sales job was for fire alarms. This is actually before recorded message blasting (and before it was outlawed). The office had three girls that called homeowners and acted like recorded messages.
The prospect would call in another line, and set an appointment. We gave them a case of soda (Coke or Pepsi, in bottles) This may have been in 1974 or 75.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I did that for a week. It sure saved time driving to the appointment. I would just wait until they got home (or got out of bed), and would start my presentation.

I found it difficult to sell, what with all the screaming...police sirens...and gun fire going on.

Oh gosh this sounds right out of Scream or something. <hushed whisper>"The calls...are coming...from INSIDE the house!"

With an effective phone script, you quickly want to separate those who are interested in getting an alarm system from those who are not (everybody else). You could use the opening from this thread, and as your 30-second commercial something like:

"My name is ____, and I work with homeowners who are:

        * concerned about the safety of their property while they're away

        * upset about the claims made by people who installed a home alarm system in the past, and things didn't work the way they were supposed to

        * worried that someone could break into their house, and surprise them or their loved ones on their return, creating a potentially very dangerous situation.

But I don't know if these apply to you..." (trail off and wait for them to speak).

See how this separates first homeowners from the public: people who are able to make a decision about what you offer; and second those who have anxiety or upset feelings about subjects that an alarm system can help resolve. When these people stick up their hand and say, "Yeah, that's me," you know they are well on their way to being qualified to buy.

There was a topic regarding an alarm system on Zig Ziglar's book and audio on this, it might help, pretty nice story about it.

There was a poster on here who pitched Alarm Sales.

    Just assume the appointment.

"We're calling to schedule a time to come buy and install your free alarm system..." blah blah blah...

    Hey again,

Thanks for the input guys! Jason, I am going to give your intro a try. I am just a little nervous that its too "nice". I guess it comes from my background in selling, since I have always been taught to be FORCEFUL or STRONG over the phone. Which works more times then not. BUT that being said I will give it a shot to see what the response is. I am fully aware that different products have a different pitch. I will post my final script when I am done with it. Thanks again guys

Another thing about this pitch is it is NOT apt. setting. The equipment is delivered to the client and they set it up themselves (All wireless), extremely simple set up. So this isn't an apt. and THEN a close. The only way that would happen is of course the homeowner says call back when my hubby or wife is home..etc..etc
