Selling Social Media Services

when I look around for businesses that I can offer social media services their facebook and twitter pages are updated often but i think that I could do a better job by including things such as polls and competitions (share to win ...)
they just post news and pictures.

but it seems like everyone has already got someone to do their social media services for them, so please can you help me and stop my sense of me never getting my first client.

thanks

also, how should I email the businesses ? I can't find marketing part of the business's email address or they may not have one.

I'm not a fan of "cold" emailing. So, I can't help you with that. If you'd like to increase your chances of winning, pick up the phone. If you'd like to increase the chances even more, get off the chair & walk in. It's much harder for people to ignore you in person than it is via email. Capice?

Cold email is IMO next to worthless.

And why do you think polls and competitions would be better than pictures and news.

    1. Posts with Pictures are more likely to be shared. And get better interaction vs. just texts
    2. Their fans may want the "news" they are posting. The key to Facebook is engagement.
    3. Share to win competitions are against Facebooks TOS last I knew.
    4. Why no mention from you that you or they were(or could be) doing coupons and special. For many businesses this is why their fans are on their facebook page.

thanks for the advice I will defiantly use special offers when I get my first client I am just stuck trying to get my first client. I guess I will try cold calling businesses but how can you find the correct number to call, for, for example, a lawyer?

My tip on this is go after the easy fruit first.

Find business that have the following.
    1. Facebook page that seldom posts.
    2. Business where Facebook fans and offers would get maximum impact- resturants, bars, etc

These people are clued into Facebook but they don't know how or don't have the time to do it right.

Once you get a few of these guys as clients you can use them as case studies for what you can do and target more and more businesses.

Personally not a fan of lawyers and such as Facebook clients as I just don't see a lot of value for them in it. Some may do it but it doesn't lend itself to getting long term deals with them and upselling them to other services. Once you show ROI on one service they will listen to suggestions of other things where you believe you can get them a good ROI.

Aaron Doud gave you some valuable information, use it. Lawyers are very difficult to sell to. Skip them, until you have more experience selling and are perhaps offering them a product that's more beneficial to their practice.

For the types of social media services you are offering, restaurants and bars are much easier, and can really benefit from social media. Remember, never contact them during serving times(Lunch 11:00a-1:30p, dinner 4:30p-9:00p). TheBigBee just posted in a thread about the best times to call businesses, look it up.

There are many businesses out there who want to use social media, but don't have the time, or don't want to take the time to do the posting themselves. You just have to do the research and find them, then sell them.

Very few small businesses have someone doing their social media for them unless its one of their clerks or relatives.

This is a very hard sell for the avg small biz owner because they wont get the idea of paying someone to do what they are already doing for free, it takes a lot of educating them to make this sale.

The ones that arent already looking for someone to do this for them WILL NOT be talked into spending hundred per month for someone to make FB posts for them.

You should probably pick and easier get your foot in the door product.

Not saying you cant sell this, call enough people and someone will buy, but Id rather pick something easier because you may get pretty disappointed and quit if its too hard early on.

Before you get your first client, it could be very difficult to get a client, especially if you are not an experienced salesman.

Why don't you approach a business (that could be a business owner that you know in person) and offer them social marketing for free. Work with them for a while and get results. And once you got results for that business, that will be your most valuable selling point to your first paid client. With real results, you will have a much higher chance of closing clients.

@non - You need to get on Elance, oDesk, or Freelancer and start responding to people posting projects for the type of work you are looking for. If you actually read the job requirements and respond intelligently you'll stand out above a lot of the spammy messages you will find posted there. From there, do good work and you just might get some referrals. That is one option, and a good one if you are just starting out. Also, you should partner up with a web designer. You can refer work to each other.
